So yesterday I noticed a very small ding in the nose band above the bumper ahead of the front trunk just underneath the Ferrari logo. How does one access the backside of this for PDR? It’s really small but noticeable. Should be easily fixed. Image Unavailable, Please Login
or possibly the surface puller that uses a hot glue gun and the black adhiesive. Ive used one on another car before, you just need to be carefull and patient, plus it may take more than one try to get it out all the way as the glue will pop off if to much force is applied to quickly.
If I was home I'd show you but I don't see any way to get to the rear of it for PDR. Also if it's never been off the car it should be welded in a few spots so taking it off is a bit involved. Maybe they can do it with the glue gun style PDR puller.
This is how. 1. Remove front bumper (1/2 hour) 2. The paintless guy will drill a hole under that panel to access the dent. Then plug it up. 3. Reinstall bumper. He charges less if you do the bumper work. He would not know how anyway.
On my 355 if i remove my bonnet, there are a couple of bolts that when undone allows that section to be removed. For a number of years when i was new to 355s, i was lead to believe it could not be removed until i discovered the bolts. Like i said thats on my 355. Just nipped out and took a picture of one of the bolts that hold the panel onto the front.
This shows were the rear tabs are locates. Took the picture last year when i removed it for paint.....again(dam stone chips) Once the bumper is removed there was also a couple of 10mm bolts on the front under face of the strip panel. Remove tjem along with the two in the boot and it came of. Hope the 348 is the same mate.
He does not want to remove it. He wants access to use paintless dent remover and they need to panels to stay on the car while they work from behind the dents. 90% of the times, they drill access hole, and then plug it up.
Not only is it bolted but it and the fenders have TACK WELDS that have to be ground off to remove them. You don’t want to do it unless you have to.
Are you talking aboutbthe 355? Because Not on mine it was not, and i was the second owner and my brother was the first. I would have said it it was welded, but it was not and never had been.
My 348 had no welds on the front strip and had obviously not been removed before. Just bolted. The fenders did have welds. Strip was no big deal to remove. I had the bonnet off too.
A friend of mine has repaired a couple of front damaged 348s and advised me on the strip down when I repainted mine. Neither had been apart before. He didn't mention welds on the strip, only bolts. As for the 355 I thought it would be the same....On the other hand I wouldn't be surprised if someone showed me a tack welded item.. Small build process differences may have happened...
So true. It reminds me of the 355 rear bumper, some have slots some do not. You will get some saying as thoughbits a fact that slots were only on a certain year, only for some one to show that there car came with it way before or after it was suggested. Thats why with ferraris no one can really say anything for certain, because some one else will show some thing on the contrary. I remember back in 2000 it was believed that this panel was not able to come of and the engine belt change was impossible to do with the engine in. Things and knowledge moves on, usually by people who acually work on the cars and report back tje facts and not just reading about it and regurgitating back as fact.
Two days ago, I just removed a bumper on a 1998 F355 and there were tack welds as well as bolts. The piece does not come off. But, this is about a 348 so the data is not relevant.
It's a typical Ferrari scenario: Some got welded, some didn't (probably depends on whether it was Luigi working that day, or Alberto ), and now it's left to owners to argue: "It should be welded in place" "No, they're not welded, I know because mine wasn't!" "Had to take mine off and it was definitely welded on!" "Took mine off and it definitely wasn't welded on!" etc., etc., etc. I think we just have to accept: Some were welded, and some were not - It's just pot luck which one you've got.
Italian cars Depends on if the mechanic/builder/fabricator drank his bottle of red wine ........ ...before work or after work.
They were not welded at the factoey on some 355s. Thats also a fact. So every one is correct. Just waiting for some one to cime on and say that no 355s were fitted with nose panels at the factory
Its like you had a vision when you took of the front bumper to look for the welds because you knew this thread would be formed (joking by tbe way, so dont get all defensive ) As with many things on fchat, it will be relevant for any future search on nose panels.
The divot does not appear to have creases or cracks in the paint. I absolutely would go paintless repair. I have had several repairs done to my Ferrari and my 930. A good shop could likely pull that back to shape at a very reasonable cost.
No vision, I actually had this same ding issue and was looking for a way to get access. I also often heard that it was welded so I checked it out. Sadly, no pictures were taken. Perhaps next time.
