No. I also don't consider it to be a De Tomaso which I do associate with that style.

Oh, i gotcha. It's not "De Tomaso" retro. Fair enough :)

It most certainly expresses an inspiration from other marques, besides De Tomaso.

Because De Tomaso has done a better job of copying the P4 than him?

Every car that is inspired by the P4 is not a rip-off of his.

    I agree and disagree.

I agree with exactly what you say. What I disagree with is that Jim started the trend, and this is a copy of what he started.

Jim started the trend. These guys took it to another level.

Tom Mead copied the P3 and P4 decades before Pininfarina copied them for JG.

I would agree with that also -- but that trend was broken long ago. Jim brought it back.

I hear ya! But how many "brand new" trends are there, really, in automotive styling and design? One or two a decade, maybe ... ?

By the way ... i'd like to see a photo comparison of the rear 3/4 view, between the two cars in question.

    Anyone post that up quick?

^^^ thank you. Hard to see the P72 as a "copy" or rip-off from the rear 3/4 view, in my opinion.

It looks dated compared to this. I can't believe jim posted pictures of the two together... the p4/5 looks plain... the grill opening in the bumper is wrong and frankly looks slabsided

It looks like a 60s race car that has been modernized. Just like Jims original vision. Thats all.

Look at any of the mid engine cars from the 60s... they pretty much ALL looked like that...

Its inspiration and the inspiration was the same.

You would think JG would take it as an endorsement or a compliment or worst... as a worthy adversary... but... some people just arent meant to truly compete.

I believe it has a 6.3 ltr. Ferrari V12 for now, given the connection with AMG (HWA: Hans Werner Aufrecht does some consulting work for the project) they expect a Mercedes V12 in the production model.

its going to be interesting s Mercedes has shelved the v12. but that doesn't mean another manufacture cant buy parts or non-homologated engines.

It has a 6.3L V12 Ferrari (without the hybrid system) and the production car will get the AMG V12 (HWA version)

Saw that, shared my thoughts in his FB post and he deleted it and blocked me. He's become a meme.

Anyways, the P72 looks amazing, hope they keep the V12 and not a Turbo V8 as is speculated.

Sorry to hear that. Jim is very proud of P4/5 and understandibly so. Sometimes people can cook their food so well they can't understand why people eat out.

Well, I must say I wasn't very nice on what I said, but it's just become so tiring. I have rarely spoke my mind on his doings after he started divagating because it was a waste of time. I just let some air out after year after year of reading his nonsense and how "everyone has copied him" and many other things. Not helpful, but liberating, haha.

Like you say, it is undestandable that he is so proud of his car, his work was very admired by many of us in here and it still is by some, but he's become basically laughing stock.

Still, I find the P72 so curvacious and more of a retro'd car than a modern interpretation. Cars nowadays aren't curvy and this is just what we needed. Please let them keep the V12, or at least offer it as an option.

The P72 will be at Monterey, in appearances sponsored by its maker, shown along with what they say is the original P70, with the P70 designer, Pete Brock. When I find out what events, I'll pass it along. Here's my artistic take on the car, oil on canvas.
