McLaren seems to improve at each GP.
Is that the benefit of Seidl's arrival in the team?

Verstappen: "It was a bit all over the place. Was not happy with the balance initially. Then in qualifying luckily we made some final changes and that made me feel a lot better in the car. We made a big jump in the car and to be so close to the pole."

Vettel: "The Merc's will be quick but the race pace will be fine. It will be a race between us and Red Bull. Yeah... one is boring. Max has calmed down."

Vettel: "I didn't have the feeling to throw the car from one corner to the other. [Confidence] Yeah... exactly. No, the race is never a problem. In the race, normally its fine."

Binotto: "Overall, I think we did a good qualifying especially if you think what was the situation yesterday. We were suffering with the balance of the car. We were wearing the front tyres. The situation looks quite difficult but I think we reacted well."

unconfirmed reports just in - the Ferrari doesn't have confidence in Vettel so it wouldn't let him push to the limit!

Anyone see all the sparks under Vettel's car in Q2?
If he's dragging the belly, no wonder he's slow.

But why did they hamstring Leclerc by putting him behind Vettel in Q3 .... twice?

And, at the end of Q2, four quick cars suddenly changed to softs, leaving Ham the only car starting on mediums?
    This is looking scripted, again.
How many 10 sec penalties will they have to award to make sure Ham wins in Britain? ;)

So 1) what’s up with Vettel, and 2) why did they run the reds in the 2nd qualifying session?

Eddie Jordan is famous for talking BS ;)
Besides, I don't think Hamilton would leave a winning team for a struggling one - some may hate him, but he's smarter than that.

Also, I cannot see Toto Wolff exchanging a winner like Hamilton, for a loser like Vettel.
People may also hate Mercedes, but they are far from stupid!

You are right , Ricciardo will never leave a team like Red Bull for a midfield one .
Joke aside , Hamilton's ego just want to demonstrate he will succeed where Alonso and Vettel failed.
    And Ferrari remains Ferrari

To be fair Vettel is a winner when he has a winning car - he's been 4 times world champion with Red Bull not by chance; he's not that different from Hamilton in this respect. Actually he may even be better with a winning car, he apparently loses motivation and performance when he knows he cannot win (he's been challenged by Ricciardo and now Leclerc with cars unable to win, while Hamilton lost to Rosberg with a winning car).

It's a risky move - even the almighty Valentino Rossi totally failed when he joined Ducati in motogp; it proved that the results are even more in the ability of selecting the right team than in the driving or riding skills (that's why I really admire Casey Stoner - he could win with the Ducati and when he joined Honda there was no contest).
