Thinking of drilling the hole, but also thinking of making an aluminum cover plate with three countersunk holes 120 degrees apart. Like an aircraft inspection cover.

    Follow up...

What is the diameter of the screen flange including the ear? 35mm or is it slightly larger, like 37-39mm? If so, a nice 1.25 inch grommet will fit from a grommet kit available on Amazon and 1.25 inch hole saws are common too. I am ready to do this mod along with my fluid changes this summer. Just got my baby back from FoNE after losing the F1 pump during a charity event last month. Sure I could have done the DIY route, but with a 400 mile tow and not sure a bleed was required on a weekend was too much. So I have a new motor, pump, and get this...uprated 50A fuse from Ferrari plus the 2 yr warranty, along with my healthy CS TCU from Europe. I just made a heat shield and heat sink for the pump motor and panel, and will post a thread on this later.

Nice. You could even clean it up a little more with some black touch up paint and fasteners. You know, maybe even adding some louvers would be good because it seems we can't get enough ventilation with these modern under trays and diffusers. I've left all my grommets out underneath and plan to make one for my new drill project, but it will be much smaller than this and I'm looking to conceal it. Oh, and what did your filter look like? Was it bad?
