Wasn't really paying much attention to him but I do remember him spinning off after a tire change, then was leading the race (LOL), and ended up finishing 4th.
I'll give credit where credits due, but I think it's fair to say we won't be seeing him up there again for some time.

For him it's a very good performance, in view of the circumstances and his limited racecraft.

Many great drivers stumbled including his team mate but Stroll kept his nose clean. Brilliant 4th. Was hoping for a podium but wasn't in the cards.

My fav move of the race was Bottas trying to put pressure on Lance only to crash out. Epic!

Great race yesterday, kudos to him.
But not sufficient toput him out of the mediocre driver basket.

I was wondering whether that was a career ending move on Bottas part. At the home GP of the entire MB factory this was the chance for Bottas to score and save the honor. Yet he couldn't even pass Stroll. Major ouch.

    Useless Bottas ? :D

He is second in the championship at mid-season !

You base your opinion about a driver on one race ?

I did see some similarity with a certain Alonso driving a Ferrari, who couldn't make a move on a much slower Petrov in a Renault.

At least yesterday Bottas had the excuse of the rain to be cautious ...

I hope Toto will take that in consideration at contract time.

BTW: Stroll is now leading Perez nicely in the WDC points.

    Tadaa!

Who would have thought of that !

Poor Sergio must be eating humble pie after yesterday's performance.

Luck can maybe be claimed when a competitor has a mechanical failure with a lap or two to go but race long performances like Stroll yesterday, Maldonado, or even Panis at Monaco in 96 are far from luck.

Not sure he was able to find a piece of humble pie: There were so many drivers standing in line in front of him. :)

Any explanation for why Bottas couldn't get past Lance?

Luck or wealth. It matters little to the reality. Lance is not a strong talent and without wealth he does not have a seat or a job in this series. He was LUCKY to have so many retirements of those normally well ahead of him and weather to assist. This is not a driver with top talent at all. Perez in general is faster and far more consistent. The events assisted his podium. In F1 you need some luck for results. Just remember to temper the cheers with respect to the reality of the situation in the larger sense. He had a good day. His lack of talent seems that those days are rare.

Useless indeed. Shows how good the car is. Bottas never was a superstar and was hired purely to be the slower driver to Lewis so to massage the ''great one's'' ego and restore team harmony.

Inability to pass Stroll is inexcusable. Same goes for Gasly....he was unable to pass the Toro Rosso's for all that time until he finally just clattered into one of them and ended his race that way. Both set a new low for their season' performance.

Bottas is a journeyman in the best car.
