Correcting my typos since they don't allow that after a few minutes, for some off reason:

To be clear, I don't think anyone is suggesting that one maintain original components in perpetuity. The point is, when parts and components are worn and require changing, they're replaced with OEM parts, particularly on cars as significant as an F40. These cars are special and should be maintained as the factory intended, I would argue, even in cases where originality is inferior to modern solutions.

When I test-drive these cars, I notice the difference between fresh and worn or hard tires, and I definitely notice worn suspension, perhaps I should work as a development driver as well.

Perishable and normal wear items such as tires & shocks should always be changed or refurbished even on a totally original car, after all it is a functioning machine.

Anyone with a few miles under their belt would notice the difference between new and old tyres, regardless of the car they are on, I was highlighting the fact that the reduction in rolling radius between a full tread tyre with 8mm on it and the exact same tyre with say 3mm left would only be equivalent to the slight change on the car that was running 18" tyres compared to the stock 17".

My F40 was originally equipped with 17 inch Michelins and still rides on Michelins, although obviously not the originals. The current rubber is getting old (we all are) and Michelin no longer make a perfect replacement set in 17 inch. Coming from the knowledge base within this forum, what is one to do? Replace with the Pirelli P7 or mount an imperfectly front/rear matched set of Michelins? Pirelli might not provide the same level of performance, but would mismatched Michelins detract from 'originality' and seem odd?

With a car of the dynamic performance potential that the F40 has, when it comes to tires, I would be thinking of just one thing: safety.

It's crazy to run an F40 on anything but the very best fresh rubber. IMO preferably no more than 3 or 4 years, certainly no more than 5. A while ago I commented to a guy whose car I was admiring that his tyres were a decade old. There's loads of tread left, he said. Okaaaaay!

The way an F40s sits on asimmetrico tyres is the way it always should be. Therefore, today, you mount the Pirellis IMHO

Do you mean P7? AFAIK the modern P7 is an eco touring tyre and the old P7 Corsa is for GpB rally cars no? They still make a P Zero in the right size.

fbrs2 You’re absolutely right…choice is Pirelli Assimetrico versus combination of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and 4S

I've no experience of either tyre to be honest (18" here) but I'd be quite skeptical of using different tyres front to back unless you were experimenting for some reason. Which just leaves the obvious matching p zeros (assimetrico)...

Actually, I believe these cars have been driven, serviced & cleaned, and were photographed awaiting delivery to be driven again.

There is a tendency these days for people to generalize that these cars are never driven,
but in fact, so many of them that I am aware of are driven quite a lot for what they are
