Anyone know any sources who could reproduce some vintage wheel centers from 1985 for me? They belong to a set of ultra-rare Hayashi Racing "Palace" wheels.

    1. Prancing horse and Ferrari text are raised gold underneath a smooth, shallow dome of some kind of resin, acrylic, or similar.
    2. Back is flat
    3. Thickness is 3.6mm
    4. Diameter is 58mm

I'm pretty sure that's not a 308 Center cap of any kind...what is it and what does it have to do with 308s?

Oops...never mind...you said what they belong to. Not a Ferrari cap...

The wheels these centers are from are on my 308. Two have flown off. I need to have some made. Anyone with any sources for making custom things like this would be appreciated! Image Unavailable, Please Login

    I like the wheels!

    Good luck with the centers.

You don't like the standard cavallino logo wheel centres?

It's not that. It's that these wheels are so rare that they are incredibly valuable by themselves, and these caps were original with the wheels—in 1985. Two have sadly now flown off, and I'd like to have a set of caps that are complete and period-correct for the wheels.

There's nothing wrong with the standard cavallino, though... I have some great looking (but inexpensive)modern ones on the wheels with missing centers currently, and will likely keep the original wheel centers in storage once complete.

Set of 4 HRE center caps on EBay Motors, asking $60. They’re a newer version but have the Horse insignia. Quite a few 308/328 members run these palace wheels, someone should be able to point you in the right direction. Sure some low life didn’t “help” these fall off? Use to be all the rage with the younger crowd as souvenirs.

    * Sigh * had not occurred to me that they might have been stolen. You may be right. People... they're so... people-y.

Re: lots of 308s running these wheels: I don't think so. I think you mean that lots of 308's are actually running HRE 505's. They're close, but not the same... hence their rarity.

This wheel was originally sold by Hayashi Racing as the Palace, but would later be utilized by HRE as the 505 when designer Gene Howald left Hayashi to form HRE in 1980. Early models of the 505 were identical to the Palace except for the center covers which showed "HRE" rather than the word "Palace", or "Hayashi Racing" that was seen on wheels branded by the Japanese company. The 505 would later be produced uniquely by HRE, in which case it did not have either Hayashi or JWL/VIA markings.

Mine are original Hayashi date stamped 1985, which was the first production year of the Palace... and these Ferrari center caps with Ferrari wordmark underneath are reportedly original to the Hayashis (per the original owner of the car who put these wheels on).

WOW. What a find. THANK YOU! Those black center covers screw on with a special huge wrench, and look to be exact replicas of what's on mine... just need to be polished and chromed. As for the center caps, they might be able to do reproduce them as well, you're right. I'll check in with them. Thanks again!

Thank you for the clarification as I was indeed thinking of the 505’s. Best of luck in finding some replacement caps.
