430 spider vs 570s spider - anyone owned both?

This is the interesting thing about the serious devaluation of newer Mclaren's, its made them appear very appealing in circumstances that otherwise you simply wouldn't be compared them in. Just like this scenario.

If you want a change then go for it. The only thing I would say is there simply isn't a specialist independent network that can look after them so it's main dealer only which means your running costs and future deprecation must be considered. I think you'll end up paying quite a lot more than you think for the ownership experience of the Mclaren than the F430 which is all but depreciated now, at least on a gentle decline. The Ferrari also has an excellent independent garage network. Oh and if you really want the 570s get a warranty...

 

I'm watching both the 458 and 570S spider markets....they are both in the same price area on the low end.....ask $200k

The difference being the age of the car, 5 years difference

 

I would suggest driving the 650 next to the 570 before making a decision.

 

Go with the 458 - that car has soul.

McLaren - white goods, an appliance of transport.

 

I decided to keep my 430 and add a McLaren, because for me the car represents the perfect Ferrari mid engine sports car experience for the street, plenty of power, with feel, sound, soul, and connectivity to the driver that i feel in all those areas except speed have gone the wrong direction after that series. The 430 is near the bottom of its depreciation curve and service costs are is reasonable. The 650 with the proactive suspension, is more of a departure from the 430 than the 570, and if you’re looking for a spider it’s also better value at this point.

 

I love my Ferrari's too but have you actually tried a McLaren before you dismiss them out of hand? I own both and they are very different and actually complementary.

The super stiff carbon tub and trick suspension on the supersports models like 12C/650S,etc. Are seriously Impressive if performance is your thing.

The standard 12C with just a simple remap gets 700hp and can even see off a 488. Granted they are not for everyone but if your not closed minded you may enjoy it!

 

I am also thinking of going from my 430 spider to a 570s …. just repairs scare me on the McLaren...

 

How much are 570s convertibles selling for?

 

Both Ferrari and McLaren present the possibility for certain big ticket repairs, one difference is there are no independent shops for McLaren, at some point that will probably change. My solution is to spend the $4,500 per year on the extended warranty. The 430 spider is a fabulous car.

 

I'm sure like most cars, 5-7% back of a competitive ask.....my local dealer is trying to get me to come in and drive a Ventura Orange spider with an $190k ask.

 

Repair worries aside, I think the biggest issue for the Mclaren is going to be depreciation, it's a much newer car so much steeper depreciation curves to consider, plus they tend to drop much faster than an equivalent Ferrari in the used market. On that alone it makes the Ferrari case much stronger. The F430s depreciation is much more gentle in comparison.

 

the 570s spider have a long way to go for depreciation. If you dont mind the $4500/yr warranty, the the 570s coupe is actually pretty affordable at 120-140 range, that will at least ease your mind on repairs, lack of indy support etc. and u can sleep well at night. Performance is obviously light years ahead of the 430, even though the experience can subjectively vary depending what you are looking for ("raw", "soul", speed, handling).
If you are retired however, the warranty overhead seems a bit high for long term ownership, especially given how little value is left in these cars. If you feel the performance itch, just lease 1 year for the experience and see where things are with mclaren

 

I am still thinking of a 570s, it is so much quicker then the F430...
