Guys, I am about to pick up my new 16 FF this weekend and I have a question about the radio unit. It seems mine has the new apple carplay unit but without the carplay? Looks exactly the same but doesn't have the apple carplay button on top right, says main instead. Seems like these units were upgraded even if you don't have the carplay for the 15-16s models? I wonder if I can retrofit the carplay on this unit more easily?

If I could swap out my 2013 unit for a non-apple play upgraded one I would be so happy. I am on my phone way too much while driving just to avoid interfacing with the built-in unit - not safe. I might just buy the newer unit and have someone try and upgrade it at an AV spot. How do I find the part #?
The Infotainment unit was upgraded in 2015 to the one in your picture. So a standard vehcicle would get your unit. Carplay was an option, which then gave you effectively the same unit but with a Carplay button on it (top right button) See video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dFdJBgbLro As someone who works in electronics, my hunch is they are the same infotainment unit and that the Carplay function is just a factory installed piece of software and the Carplay button fitted. CarPlay is truly rubbish unless you are in the USA and use more than Spotify as that's the only app worth using on it....yes, the head unit is indeed different and the software is nicer than the previous UI
So I guess I get the upgraded unit without the apple play. I wonder if there could be just a software flash we could do for the apple carplay. Either way this seems to be an upgrade from the previous generation. Anyone have experience with this at all?

I have a FF '15 with CarPlay option fitted and the button indeed does have the text designated Apple CarPlay on it. Looks just like the one pictured above also.

If you going to change/upgrade, you might as well go with a nice 2-DIN head unit that is by far superior to the ones they use in our FF's....Alpine units are a good.....

From what I can see the newer unit has improved graphics but Im not sure if it has improved resolution or sound....
