Yes, my mistake guys. Sorry about that. Both photos in the thread looked like same car so I mixed them up. 9k miles for the no-sale. 34k miles was not at auction, but at CNC.

No idea why bidding stopped at 140s...that seems pretty off. Did the car get damaged at auction that sometimes happens when they move them around???

 

Re the black one at Sotheby's, can someone confirm (not guess or speculate) if the car sold for $218,400 all in with fee, or was it $239k all in as someone posted above?

(lots of auction houses are smart enough to show the higher fee-included price on their website, not sure about sotheby's and I haven't been able to figure it out on their site yet)

(asking because $218k is par for the course for a 10k mile CS, whereas $239k would be one of the higher actual sales over the past couple of years since the air came out of the bubble back in 2016)

This CS was for sale at BMW of San Francisco few months ago with an asking price of $260k. I was told that it belonged to the owner of the dealership. On a side note it appears that the price gap between factory striped cars and non striped is getting larger. I remember when it was a $10-15k difference roughly 10 years ago and now more like $50-60k.

spread has been about $50k for some time now... nice ROI.... for a sticker lol

 

Sotheby's states that the buyers commission is 12% under $250k and 10% thereafter. Given that, the finals sales price less applicable sales tax is $ 244,608.

 

I was watching the auction online. This car hammered for $195k. Add 12% BP to that.

 

Thanks. So you know for a fact their web shows the pre-fee price? (Other auction houses show the price including the fee, and I don’t know for a fact which Sotheby’s shows. Can you link where they say?).

(Not sure why some people post wrong answers when the truth is they don’t know, especially when they are replying to someone who asked for no guesses and no speculation - they must own a CS and want to inflate prices)

I was in the room when that black car sold for $195K. Surprised me but that is the market.... for a 10k miles car. Wow.
Also in the room when the F355 red convertible from the Ming collection sold for $175K. It only has a few hundred miles.

 

Did anyone see the Bonhams auction of ZFFDU57AX40134376 in person? Skippr1999 posted yesterday "no sale high bid was like 143k".

But when I go to the Bonhams website, it says SOLD. Was the car sold after the auction?

I interpret low ( at least I hope so!). I bought mine last fall and how quick the market dropped. Still got a great car so all is good. The saying is within my friendly circle is I am the bellweather for car buying and stocks...when I buy- it is usually at the top of the market so steer clear

Like I've said in a few threads here..... I think the manufacturers have flooded the market with "collectible" cars and the guys that probably shouldn't have ever bought one are trying to get out.

 

I think the CS was low and the 355 was high, but that was where the bidding ended.

Some of you guys think $218,400 is too low for a 10k mile Black CS?

(the buyer did not *pay* only $195k, they paid $218,400 for the car including the auction fee)

Fwiw, I don't. That's been +/- market range for a while (but I don't expect a very illiquid market to have precision and complete consistency in its few actual sales and I see the aspiration in some asking prices)

That's over original MSRP for a 10,000 mile, 15-year old car, that was made in ~1300 units. Nothing to complain about there (not every car has a market like the F40).

Btw, the market looks mostly like this:

Sub 5000 mile very highest level $240k+ range
10,000 mile good cars $210-230k range
15,000 mile cars $190-210k range
20,000 mile cars $180-190k range
Over 20,000 mile cars? Good luck. $140k-$180k depending upon miles, condition.

And, despite my giving a range here, there will be outliers due to "story" and the very illiquid market.

Also, while I hate to disagree with Stokpro, I'm not seeing anywhere near $50k premium for factory stripe. Maybe $10-20k. Actually, thinking about it a bit more. It would be a higher premium for a "collection bound" CS (so a sub-5000 mile garage queen) than it would be on a driver car with 20,000. So, it could approach $50k for a car bound for a collection (not that there are more than 1-2 of those per year nowadays). And I know for a fact its not much premium on a drivers mileage car.

 

I agree 100%. Especially about the stripe. Stripe is great for a collectible garage queen. I think the stripe is a bit much out driving around. I have a faux stripe on my CS I will remove soon. I like the look "sans stripe" out on the street

 

To each their own. IMO the special stripe made for that special car adds to the look. Even a fake stripe is justifiable. Fake stripe on a fake CS....not so much.
