It's very different converting a F1 to 6spd since all the parts are swappable either way. Nothing to cut and shut so no coach builder required! All bolt on / bolt off parts and a bit of ECU reprogramming. Relatively simple assuming you can get the original genuine parts affordably....

I've been as big of a manual retro-grouch as anyone, but the more I drive F1 cars, the more I believe the modern cars are just better when driven with F1. That said, I'd still prefer period-manual cars as such (550, TR, etc.), but converting a modern F1 to a manual just to try and match the exclusivity of the few factory cars that happened to be built as manuals during the manual-to-F1 transition period seems like it should be a personal investment, not a speculative exercise on the market.

Agree. They are better left as the designers intended.

We've briefly discussed it a few threads down in the GTO picture thread. I think it deserves its own thread, but I suppose it won't get one until there is more info.

Were there any changes to the wiring harness? I thought such conversions usually need a harness change too.

Not that I am aware of. I know for sure we did not install a new harness if that is what you are asking.

Any word on anyone else doing F1 to manual swaps on 612's or 599's? Be interesting to see if this is starting to become "a thing" now that its been demonstrated by Boardwalk. Defo seems to be more people doing it on 430's.

I see a big future in 599 F1 to manual swaps.
Its probably the last V12 where one can possibly keep up with the gear shifts manually. At 600 hp perhaps beyond reasonable.
IMO a F1 599 is just another outdated
automatic front engined V12. Read about the F12 to Superfast comparisons. The F12 is an awkward turd.
But a manual shift 599 is the best of the last of the breed.

The 612 is easy now. There's a place here in town that has even done a Challenge Stradale manual. That wan't easy but the results are evidently fantastic.

I'm leaning toward a C8 to put beside my 360, but if I get a 612 I'll definitely convert it to manual.

It will be anything but easy. The parts are almost impossible to find.

Doesn't matter. They just fabricate them. It is exactly easy. Not cheap, but easy.

You talking about European Auto Group? (the guys who did the 430 Scud manual conversion).

I'm not sure how it's easy since 612 and 599 stick shift parts are extremely rare and they'd need to copy them exactly in order to make good reproductions. Then again, I'm not an expert on that so maybe there's some tricks to it but I'm not holding my breath, especially given his history.
