Is it time for Charles Leclerc to become the number one driver at Ferrari?

    https://www.espn.com/f1/story/_/id/27526094/is-charles-leclerc-become-number-one-driver-ferrari

Charles Leclerc finally won his first race at the Belgian Grand Prix. He did so after out-performing Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel all weekend -- the four-time world champion was even asked to move out of his way during
So that begs an important question for our F1 panel -- Nate Saunders and Laurence Edmondson join columnists Maurice Hamilton and Kate Walker -- about the existing hierarchy at the Italian team.

Is it time for Ferrari to throw its weight behind Charles Leclerc?

I love the atmosphere at Monza. The sight of the streets clogged with hundreds of Ferrari’s on their way in, Tifosi in the trees on their scaffolding, Italian beauties wandering around in cotton dresses!!!!! My kinda race!

Forza Ferrari..... the only racing team and car marque that matters. Italia forever It’s easier to apologise than it is to ask permission

    No doubt about it.
Ferrari has already lost the best part of a season not switching their drivers preference.

Looks like the two trucks in the first pick are squaring up! Would make a great Disney film - ‘Trucks’, the story of the support trucks, their travels across Europe with the f1 circus, and their fight to rescue their baby Dodge Ram from the clutches of the evil genius that wants to transplant the 8 litre Viper power plant for a wheezy turbodiesel lump!

There ya go Disney.... £100k cash, and that idea is yours... I’ll write it for £1mill.

New engine so decent chance at front row lock out and a win I'd say.

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/145761/verstappen-gets-new-engine-will-start-at-the-back

Max Verstappen will start the Italian Grand Prix from the back of the grid after Red Bull's engine supplier Honda confirmed the Formula 1 driver will use a new power unit.

Honda introduced its Spec 4 engine during the Belgian Grand Prix last weekend, but it was only used by Verstappen's new team-mate Alex Albon and Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat.

Albon reverted to a pre-French Grand Prix engine for Saturday and Sunday as Honda was keen on having a fresh unit for the Monza weekend.

On Wednesday, Honda confirmed that both Verstappen and Kvyat's team-mate Pierre Gasly will get a fresh power unit in Italy, meaning both will start from the back of the grid.

"The main development is that we plan to run the Spec 4 PU with all four drivers for the first time after just Albon and Kvyat ran it in Belgium," explained Honda's technical director Toyoharu Tanabe.

"For their first race with Spec 4, Gasly and Verstappen will, therefore, take grid penalties and start from the back of the grid, but we believe they can still race strongly on Sunday.

"We gathered useful data in Spa, which we have used to make changes to PU settings and calibration in preparation for this race.

"We will try to maximise the potential of Spec 4 and hope to get another positive result, maintaining the momentum we gained in Spa."

Verstappen said after the Belgian GP - where he retired after a first-lap accident - that starting from the back at Monza was not a big concern given the overtaking opportunities.

"I think it can be alright to overtake," he told Autosport. "We all know Ferrari is going to be really quick there, and if you start from the back you probably won't catch the top four.

"Everything behind that I think it's possible to catch up with."

Interesting take from Redbull, we can take the grid position hit; and more than likely still end up top of the mid field, just behind the two front teams! All they are really jeopardising is a potential podium position, that at this track would be a long shot for them anyway! Assuming Max doesn't try and create space out of nowhere again!

The grid penalty system joke continues!

Maybe a little off topic, but I gotta know.

Sid, what's your DD? Is it a Ferrari, and if it isn't does it ever get an oil change or a trip to the carwash? :D

Starting from the back and finishing 5th at worst at Monza; that seems a reasonable goal from Verstappen.

I am sure he can realise that. Finishing higher would be a bonus.

I hope he can do it, and that will be interesting to follow during the race.

Some people are dead against grid penalties, but for the top teams, it's not really an issue.

+1 for sure on a speed track like Monza. A good clean start and Max will be up 5 places by lap 2

My daily alternates between a Range Rover Sport SVR and my California T. I’m looking at getting a McLaren possibly, just not sold quite on the looks, or a Huracan to join them. I assure you, my cars are impeccably serviced, by main dealers only, and the Albanians collect and clean them almost daily. Why? I’m not sure it’s relevant to Monza?, or are we setting something up here?

I drive the RR mostly, as with my legs and my stomach together, distances can be an issue sometimes

There’s a thread about my Cali in the relevant section
