Hi all. So noticed there's some ancient threads on replacing the OEM Kenwood 360 radio/CD player for an aftermarket one with USB/Bluetooth etc. Any 360 owners here that have done this? Want to keep the OEM Kenwood for when I sell (no intention to sell at all). The CD player is really quite terrible - constantly skips being 2005 Tech and the hard ride of 360 Spider. Was thinking maybe an Alpine USB/Bluetooth/CD player. Any recommendations? Cheers.
Do you have a pic of your current radio? The OEM one is actually a Becker 6104 unit like this Image Unavailable, Please Login I originally replaced this with a Pioneer DEH-80PRS as I wanted something modern, yet OEM looking. This was quite a good unit, although I later replaced that with an old JVC AVX77 which is a single DIN full screen unit so I could connect the OEM reversing camera. I've added a custom wallpaper to make it look quite OEM like. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sorry yes, error on my part. Not Kenwood. I have the original Becker unit with the Ferrari words written at top. Was thinking Alpine but will check those out too.
I installed the Pioneer Avh-3400nex. I mainly got it for the Apple CarPlay as I wanted navigation. Works great and you can hide the display if you want. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D3NVPGF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Love my Alpine ilx-f309. Apple CarPlay gives me everything I need...easy texting with voice, waze gps, rear view camera with a cheap amazon $20 camera, and my phones music. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you Brian & 360C. I've been on the fence to replace my Alpine with a GPS variant because I love taking country (back) road drives. Indeed those pictures were worth >10K words. In your hands the Alpine ilx-f309 looked too large but installed and the way it sits below the vents isn't that bad. Both looks great. Thanks for sharing guys!
The Alpine seems huge when you unbox it... you start to wonder if its going to work, but it does. I wouldn't mind if it were 1" smaller, but you get used to it, and it is a really easy to use screen at its size. I liked that its fixed...doesn't feel rickety or move when you touch it. the reverse cam looks awesome on it...and I only got a cheapo one from amazon.
Great idea!! Can you please explain how the reverse cam interacts with the unit, and where exactly you mounted it? Thank you in advance! Kevin
yes, of course, Kevin. It’s mounted on the rear license plate. The stereo shop that installed the alpine did it...they ran the wires through the engine compartment inside some shielding, then through the firewall, under the console and to the head unit ( it has a reverse camera port/plug...i think it’s just an rca plug). When I shift into reverse (I have a manual), the screen automatically switches to the camera view. It’s pretty much the way a modern oem system would work. Maybe I’ll make a YT video next week if I have time.
I am in the middle of “upgrading” my original Becker. I installed a Mosconi pics amp and it made a huge difference in sound...but is limited by the crappy original speakers. I am installing the Focal Flax 6.5 speakers with the kit from Scuderia Audio this weekend. Assuming it goes well, should be best of both worlds (OEM look plus better sound). Here's the camera I used on mine. I also used this when routing thru the engine bay. To get the wires to the license plate, I drilled a hole in the rear bumper behind the plate. Seamless install.
I have a reverse camera to mount onto my car over the winter to my pioneer radio. It has the feature to auto switch to reverse camera when I select reverse gear. However mine is F1 so does anyone know which wire I need to tap into for this to happen? Also which way is best to route the wires through the engine bay into the interior of the car? Cheers.
Hi folks, I just installed a new head unit similar to the picture above-- but I can't figure out how to mount it properly / secure it? Is there any kit you used? I have all the wiring working now, but the old unit just "snapped in" and I don't think that portion is transferrable to the new unit?
