Greetings MANDALAY, Thank you for your comments. Yes, both cars are used. Fortunately, they were spec'd as I would want them. When I bought these cars, I had some hope they would appreciate in value when I sell. However, that realization is very likely 40 years out and I won't care. The main driver has been that in off years, the repair bills have been significant. Having a 7 year, extendable warranty is very attractive. I also think the F8 is very fine looking car, very similar to the 360 in that is has the smoother more aesthetic lines. I spec'd mine using TDF blu and Nuovo Cuoio interior with blue stitching and all carbon fiber interior as in my 599. So I have condensed both aesthetics into one car. No doubt, the performance specs are astounding. Again, thank you for your thoughts. Rick
Question is whether it's more ludicrous than a Ferrari SUV though - otherwise it could happen no matter what... Regarding the SF90, it's a good proposition for people wanting to spend more money than for a F8, and so it addresses most customers otherwise looking for a VS; but in (the unlikely?) case there are still a (very) few people considering the VS as a more track oriented proposition, the heavy SF90 is out of scope and an F8 VS would make sense.
Suv has been confirmed and makes sense if ferrari wants to increase its reach. I’m with Mark on the f8 vs. Already the f8 is rumored to be a 2 year run till the little brother comes. That puts us at f8 for 2020- 2022 and in 2022 little brother comes. Where does f8vs fit? By 2022 you have emissions requirements completely changing and f8 already has GPF so f8vs will have GGPPFF??? I don’t see it happening- I may be wrong but logic says no f8vs.
compound that with pricing, the SF90 pricing (without 'track pack') would be about where an F8VS price would be, makes no sense f to have two more or less equivalent cars at the same price point And, here's a scary thought... Ferrari's cars fall out of favor due to all the regulations being piled on and so the 'FUV' is their major seller and, and their cars are no longer desirable as all will be quieter than vacuum cleaner and may have speed caps...weird world coming up
Pistas are coming in between 430k-500k so assume 10-20% increase and you are at 475-600k for a VS so you are absolutely correct on the pricing.
I bought both cars, second hand, though they were spec'd as if I was buying new. Thank you very much for your thoughts, they are greatly appreciated. I have decided to go forward and order an F8 and sell the 599 and 360. They will be greatly missed, but having SOA technology and a 7 year warranty is very attractive, particularly as retirement is near. My estate plans do not include a Ferrari as an asset, so a "regular" F8 vs a VS is not important. Best, Rick
I'm not aware of 7-year warranty - what I believe one still gets with a new Ferrari is 3-year warranty and 7-year routine maintenance (not including regular wear e.g. for brakes and tyres).
it does include brake fluid flush every 2 years...but not new tires https://auto.ferrari.com/en_US/owners/7-year-maintenance/ https://auto.ferrari.com/en_US/news-events/news/ferrari-introduces-an-exclusive-new-customer-care-service-with-the-free-seven-year-ferrari-genuine-maintenance-programme/ The programme covers the scheduled maintenance at standard service intervals (20,000 km, or once a year, with no restriction on total kilometres) along with the relative original spare parts, engine oil and brake fluid. The advantage to the owner is the assurance that the vehicle will be subject to regular annual inspection by Ferrari-trained personnel using factory-approved dedicated diagnostic equipment. This service will be progressively available in all Ferrari markets in the next few months and will involve the global authorised delearship network. (article from 2011 so I presume is now global)
What makes you say that? Performance numbers don’t seem that far off and then you have the added weight of the Stradale
Not possible if you are referring to any speeds over 130mph because at that moment the Stradale completely loses all electric power and the SF90 suddenly becomes responsible for hauling around all that extra dead weight and at that point, even with more HP from IC engine, the Stradale is in a losing proposition to the Pista, especially in corning where the extra weight of the Stradale will be a disadvantage. And, at this time, it is unknown when the SF90 will recover use of its electrics, could it be at 129mph or will it "back off" until a predetermined point such as 110mph, and that could potentially put the Stradale at an even greater disadvantage. This is the problem with Ferrari's choice of weakling YASA electric motors that are better suited to a Toyota than a Ferrari...perhaps Ferrari will find a more capable electric motor provider, after all Rimac indicates up to 227mph, even Tesla's are good for 155mph...I am rather disappointed Ferrari chose to disadvantage the SF90 in this way, it is most illogical. First Ferrari does not even make the electric motors (I believe first time ever Ferrari has used a third party to provide its propulsion device in a regular production vehicle, not a good sign for the future), and second, the capabilities of this selection are definitely not 'Ferrari grade'.
Ouch! and for those that dismiss the F8 VS there are some customers who would still pay a premium price to get away from the styling design and hybrid technology offered for more money. Plans may have changed with slow progress and the clock ticking but there was to be a F8 VS built.
Incorrect. It loses the electric power from its front motors, not the rear one. This is just a distraction. Do you really think that Ferrari (or any major supercar maker for that matter) hasn't done its maths on the matter? For sure the Stradale will be slower than the LaFerrari at high speeds, but an F8 round a track? That will be an easy meal...
I have searched high and low, cannot find the power output of each of the electric motors, I presume the fronts are identical and the engine one, well, maybe its the same. If the same, and it is 217bhp, then at 130mph you lose 145bhp, good thing the car is lightweight. Also, I know it is likely the engine mounted electric motor continues to provide assistance after 130mph but I cannot find verification of that. And, at what point do the electrics recover once exceeding 130mph, at what point do they re-engage? Can you point me to your source for these data? I think I said Pista, not F8 around the track. And I think Ferrari chose to save money by providing the SF90 with front electric motors incapable of providing support for speeds in excess of 130mph... And, during those "regen laps" the SF90 will not even keep up with a 458 much less a Pista lest the batteries deplete too far. Because of all the engine power being used to spin the MGUK to regen the batteries...
All I am saying that I have been told there was going to be a limited version of the F8. Whether is some styling cues , carbon etc I don't know. Thing is the F8 will be selling until 2022. At the end this is where a limited number will be made. BTW no F8 purchase no F8 special.
I do not want to arc up any Pista owners but remember the F8 has the same output as the Pista , well is it ? Actually its a bit more given the fact of the GPF . Clearly said in the presentation of the F8 spyder. Before anyone jumps on me I KNOW the Pista is awesome and more than just the engine.
Apparently F8 dry weight is 1,400 kg and Pista 1,280 kg, 120kg difference, that equates to about 37 more horsepower (for each 7 pounds lost is equivalent of gaining 1 horsepower) and even more if that weight difference is in the unsprung weight, but other than carbon wheels probably unsprung weight is the essentially the same, so that would presume to give the edge to the Pista, at least in stock form. And due to complications of removing/bypassing the GPF devices, a Pista with a more free flowing aftermarket exhaust will have an even greater edge on the F8
If there is a f8 VS- and I don’t believe there will be one- it will have GPF or worse.Something even more invasive. People are already complaining about GPF, how bad do you think the opera will be with the special? For good or bad it’s hybrid time. Little brother coming soon
Agreed on the opera but the reviews coming out quote a different sound. Good / bad ? Surprising someone on this forum knows the truth on the VS but its probably too sensitive to mention. I just think it will be something like a livery like the 70th anniversary. But imagine if they put the SF90 ICE engine the 4 litre into the F8
