I know I'm gunna get howled down but i'll put it here anyway. This thing,RELATIVE TO CONDITION!,looks to be pretty reasonable value now. RHD (dunno how good/bad the conversions are),Euro looking body, carby, what could be bad about it. @ $90k. https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1978-ferrari-308-gts-manual/SSE-AD-6263264/?Cr=13
Yeah I recon it’s a great entry level price Simon...The Engine alone if any good would have to be worth 40 K , gearbox , $10 K......
Testarossa $155k https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1988-Ferrari-Testarossa-Manual/SSE-AD-4706633 Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I think it is....I’ve lost more money on the C63 AMG and new Porsche’s I’ve had over the years...It’s a US 100 K car over there so don’t think you would loose much , but still get the pleasure of driving a TR albeit from the other seat....
the only issue with driving a LHD car here is that you (very) occasionally forget that 80% of the car is to the right of you. Can catch you out on Sydney intersections where the lanes are offset from one side to the other (e.g. Military Rd). Not that much of a problem in my Vette and wouldn't be in a 308 either, but a TR is a wide car...
Must admit Ian I’ve never driven a LHD on those sort of roads in Australia...And it does make sense but purely from a pricing point of view ( if it’s a good car ) it’s pretty much what they sell for in the states..The next step up is $350K which I personally would not pay for that model...I’d bet if you put $140K on the bonnet you would probably own that TR....
I've driven a '64 'Vette on the roads up here, for a wedding,. A: I wouldn't give yer 2 bob for the car (sorry Ian) and B it ain't ANY fun because you're always on edge with the overtaking thing and you wouldn't want be in the car alone ,I had the bride in the thing and apart from it not being able to get first most of the time ,she was reluctant to be hung out to dry when I was able to move to the right so she could see the oncoming traffic. I'm only talking about a 2 lane highway (of sorts!) road though.
As I've said many times Simon, there's a world of difference between a tired base model and a restored one with the right suspension and brakes. I find the best way to overtake is to move to the left and look down the inside of whatever's in front of you. And sometimes you just have to be patient... It's rarely a problem though. I spent 4 years in Germany driving mostly pommy RHD cars so got well used to the problem in reverse.
The 'highway' I had to drive on was the Gillies, before the state road mob decided that mandatory potholes and heatraised bitumen wasn't the 'worlds best practice' on a busy tourist route.
It's a QV bonnet. US cars hade extra vents on the engine cover, but I'm not sure how late they were introduced
It’s a US car converted to RHD. If it’s been done with RHD Ferrari parts, is there much of an issue?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well yes Gazz,if you were looking for a drivable, straight RHD (now),carby 308 to use properly without the drama of having to keep it original/concour/etc.then this would have to be up there......then this is the type of thing an enthusiastic driver would go for....same as having a crack at this thing,RHD,but possibly rusty, best engine and you get to enjoy the sun for the same dosh as a .........Jeep..... https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1983-ferrari-mondial-quattro-valvole-manual/SSE-AD-6295305/?Cr=19 Jeeeeeez I sold my 308 tooo cheeep!!!!
If that's a conversion, then the bonnet would have to be changed to suit the wipers. Maybe they could only find a QV bonnet
I guess there's the million dollar question....Why would you change the bonnet on a conversion?.....mmmmm things are never what they seem......I'm sure the car has a story to tell, which no one else is telling....
