Similar sentiments can be made about a Banksy, Château Chevals, or various Patek Phillips. A facet of exotic cars has always been exclusivity, often that specialness is wrapped in its very notion (see Supreme.) It can be divorced from any intrinsic rarity or accomplishment.

Have special editions reached saturation? From subjective viewpoints, many would say yes. However, given this car, as well as many others have the cliche addendum of, "All already sold" - I would argue using classic economic theory - no.

Furthermore, given I am a capitalist, literally on a forum that often celebrates conspicuous consumption, I find denigrating the purchase price of any car a slippery slope indeed. At best, cognitive dissonance, at worst, envious critique on what somebody did with (their money.) On this very forum, you will find folks that have experienced criticism (financial as well as socio-political) on their Ferrari purchases by those beyond a Toyota Prius. It's very relative. 8M is a fortune to me, to others a drop in the bucket.

 

For sure, to each their own. Their money, their choice, though I just find it strange considering so many car companies offer commissioned cars even more rare than this, complete one-offs, for vastly less than this.

I always point out that Jim Glickenhaus paid much less for P4/5, including the Enzo it's based on, than this car based on a "mass produced" Aventador.

I guess my litmus test for modern cars like this is: If you could change anything, even a single bolt or screw on the car, would you? If the answer is yes, then why not just commission one rather than settle for someone else's design/spec? This of course is only true for the modern stuff that's not actually rare under the skin. If you want a classic car driving dynamics, you have to buy the original and find one that still exists. If you want to experience a Veneno you could just buy an Aventador SV or something.

 

In a word, pedigree.
