Just bought a 1987 328 GTS with 29,800 (very soon 30,000) miles. Car is in great condition and just had major service by reputed specialist. Very few issues (bulb apparently out in passenger door,
Missing nut for fuse box cover). I intend to drive this car about 2,000 miles a year. Advice regarding servicing in Hudson, NY area, general recommendations regarding parts sources and winter storage welcome.

Congrats, I have had my 89 for 20 years, 102k miles. Parts are getting scarce for these cars. Just a little FYI, I myself have been buying new parts and keeping them on stand by for 20 years . Keep up on your majors, and the car will run fantastic . My starter and alternator lasted 100 K miles, I do not run synthetic oil, Valvoline Racing 20/ 50 mineral oil with ZINC additive , in my estimation is your best choice for oil, my car runs as good as it did with 20 K miles, so the oil must be doing its job. If you want to get the most performance, a Tubi and sport cat or test pipe will wake the car up. My accelerator and clutch cable lasted for 99 k miles. I was using shell full synthetic gear oil, now I have redline full synthetic in the gear box, I have not had any issues with the transmission. I had to replace caps and rotors at about 90 k miles, changed plug wires and extenders about 3 maybe 4 times over 20 years. I have to say, at 100 k miles the suspension system was working so well that after all brand new shocks , bushings, bearings the new suspension is not that much better than before. I did have a great improvement when I replaced all 4 motor mounts, they were shot , not sure for how long, but I had the new ones installed at 100 k miles. My car shifts like a knife through butter with the new motor mounts. So I hope this gives you some idea, and just so you know, I drive my car like my Formula One delusions of grandeur !! lol Yes, I drive it hard and fast.

I replaced my clutch at 60 K miles with a Kevlar unit in 2003 , and its still working fine 40 k miles later.

Your gear shifting must be 'nice and loose' after 100k miles, I can just imagine !

Solid and smooth not so much loose, the shifts are also very positive, in a sense that the mechanical action of the shifter through the gate has positive engagement feedback , if that makes any sense

    Thank you

Thanks. btw, did 328s have a clear coat or were they lacker finish? Anyone have any experience getting a ceramic coating or plastic film on them? Would like to drive the hell out of my car AND have it continue to look great....

All 328s were OEM finished in
All 328s were OEM finished in "single stage" paint, that is, laquered finish (if you polish them, your pad will be red rather quickly if the car is in original paint).
The scheme "base coat + clear coat" started only in the middle of 348 production, around 1991 or so.

Bruno- you are correct that all 328s have single stage paint (glasurit) from the factory. My understanding is the original paint is not lacquer. I believe the difference between lacquer paint and the glasurit is the solvents used in the two. I will ask my detailer next week as he’s preparing my car for Cavallino for this January.

Oh, you are probably right, Paul, no doubt about it. By using "laquer" I was just trying to differenciate it from the "base coat + clear coat" system; I could have used the word "enamel" also. I don't know exactly what the Glasurit paint is for our cars.
In French we use to call the single-stage paint (opposed to "base coat + clear coat") simply "brillant direct", i.e "direct gloss", meaning there is only the paint itself, without a top coat of gloss over it.
(primer under it of course: for our cars the factory used pink primer on red cars, grey for all the other colors).
    Rgds

And FWIW for the original post: keep in mind to check the paint label under the engine hood of your car, as 328s were finished in two different shades of "Rosso Corsa": first half of the production in 300/6, second half in 300/9; change occured mid-1987.

are you sure on the Rossa Corsa, I've seen early 328's with light orange red like 300/12 or Rosso Dino, Red but with more orange.

100% sure, John: only one "standard red" in the catalogue, which was "Rosso Corsa 300/6" up to mid 1987, then "300/9" till the production's end.
"300/12" only came at the mid 348 production

Non-standard "reds" during the 328 production were "Prugna" and "Rosso Rubino".

When replacing things on the car use the modern upgraded versions. When doing a belt service, use Hill Engineering bearings. If you're replacing fuel lines, use the upgrades from Scuderia Rampante. Upgrade the water pump from Nicks. There are many parts available that are vastly superior to the original 30 year old designs.

Before digging into the pass door for the bulb, first try wiggling the door jamb switch.
Sometimes those grounding switches don't make contact.

308s had, as for "standard red" color:
Glidden Salchi's "Rosso Chiaro" for the carbed cars, up to - more or less - the start of the "2 valve injected" production (and keep in mind that red was much less common on carbed 308s than on later variants)
The paint provider changed soon after the start of the "2 valve injected" from Glidden Salchi to Glasurit; their standard red was called "Rosso Corsa".
Later, that "Rosso Corsa" became "Rosso Corsa 300"; then "300/6" for the QVs and the first half of the 328 production; then 300/9 for the second half of the 328 production
[even if 300/9 had already appeared in 1984, but only for the 288 GTO at the time].
Your 328 is a very late production example, so after mid-1987 so 300/9 is indeed "de rigueur".

yes, well the sticker confirms it with the warrantee card and confirm by Ferrari.

when you look at a F430 in Rosso Scuderia which is more orange 'flame' red or more with orange it also reminds me of older red used in the older models.
