Which would you have? To me, the F40 and 599 GTO compliment each other, whereas the F40 and F12(TDF) clash with each other. I think it's that the F12 is disproportionately taller than the F40 and too modern by comparison.

so what ur really asking is gto vs tdf. tdf.
    f40 vs tdf and gto.
cant compare anything to the f40. f40 is divine inspiration. then there is everything else.

So the GTO is really a bit of a dog in comparison to the TDF?

In reality I personally like the 599 GTO better than TDF and this thread is just me trying to confirm my bias because I secretly know the TDF is clearly a better performer. But seriously the TDF is just sooo modern looking compared to the F40 whereas the 599 has more of a 'classic' look to it.

I think both would complement an F40. The 599 GTO is also very modern when you come out of an F40. Plus it is huge vs a TDF. Both GTO and TDF are pretty mental which is great in today's market.

I am only concerned about the F1 gear box of the 599 GTO. I have never driven that car and new dual clutch gear box are so good that I hope I won’t be disappointed...
    A test drive is necessary!!

That red F12TdF with the thin subtle strips is many time more beautiful than any 599GTO IMO. Not sure why that has anything to do with the F40 though. Most anything 'clashes' with an F40 which I think was the goal of its design.

Take the badges off and that TDF could pass as a Corvette.

The owner of that F12TdF is likely a member of this site with several top notch Ferraris. Its OK to state an opinion for sure but that comparison seems meant more of an insult. ;)

There is nothing like the F12Tdf and sorry to say the 599 GTO places, in my opinion, second to the Tdf. Both are equally beautiful though...

So F40 and Tdf for me.

I strongly recommend you schedule an appointment with a very good optometrist.

    I own an F40, a GTO and a tdf.

IMHO the F40 and the TDF are the better paring because both represent the perfection of a particular concept.

i have been thinking about the op question for a few days....
and have concluded it makes no sense.

the F40 and these others, are just too different to be compared or paired.

the gto and the tdf are simply the final powerful iterations of road cars with lesser performance.

there are variations of the F40, but there is no lower performance f40 that was made in the thousands, and then a roided version for the last 500 bodies left over in the shop.

Very true. I get what you are saying and agree but there is also no version of the F12 that does not outperform the F40 by a large margin as one would expect. Hypercars and supercars should not be compared - they are different classes from very different eras.

For me its 599 GTO and F40. TDF is great but when experiencing it back to back with the GTO the GTO felt more raw to me. Friend of mine owns a F40 and after he drove the GTO his comment was that the GTO had the same edgy feel when driven hard.

that was neither the question or the answer.....
many cars outperform the F40 at this stage, and it wasnt my point.
my opinion is that the opening question is nonsense.
its like saying what goes better with my strawberries, mustard or ketchup?

Yes and no. The hypercar / supercar distinction is sort of superficial, especially when applied here.

We're talking here about limited production, special Ferraris. That's all.

If, for comparison's sake, I were to pair two different LE Fiats with the F40, then I'd say you have a point.
