had a friend look at an out of state car (1997 spider) being sold by a widow. car has incredible up to date service history and was running like a champ prior to owner passing a few months ago. lights, windows, etc. all work and battery seems to be fine, but my buddy could not start the car; absolutely no crank. dash lights illuminate with key on, but in start position, car will not crank? car in neutral, clutch pedal depressed. any other tricks? thinking something obvious is being overlooked.

is this how the immobilizer interrupts system?

There is a key fob with a button you have to push, It would make two beeps and the light in the middle of the center vent goes off. Then you insert the key and start the car. The car should have 3 fobs, but not many do.

Well, that is how it is supposed to work if all the batteries are up to snuff.

thank you. to be clear, this will create a no crank condition, or a crank with no start?

Yes, that is exactly how the immobilizer works when you attempt to start the engine and don't use the button on the fob first.
