There's an article on topgear.com as well, plus one that has been posted here a while back. Love the concept and the execution! The original article posted here mentioned some "suspension modifications" but didn't give any details. I'd be very interested to know what was done on that front.
I posted the road and track article a few months ago, since then it's been in quite a few magazines and YouTube review channels. What surprises me, is how -this- car got that much attention? There are plenty of amazing 355, why are the magazines bananas over this one? Is it just related to the driver/ creator? I could name 10 people here right now with better modded 355s. Heck, start with F355bob car
related is my guess as in someone in publishing is relaed to the owner. Sent using FerrariChat.com mobile app
"Ferrari never offered a hardcore, track-inspired version of the F355" Yeah too bad. They could have called it the F355 Challenge or something like that.
I think the owner is Jeff Segal, who is a multiple time IMSA champion and race winner, Mostly in Ferraris in IMSA GTD. Yes, also raced successfully at LeMans (All in Ferraris, has won, as well as a second and third place finish in GTE Am) Also pole at 24 hours of Daytona, and win at 24 Hours of Daytona in a Ferrari Its a very cool car, owned and driven by a very successful Ferrari racer. Im all for it getting lots of publicity because of who the owner is, and putting our cars out there as 'cool' in a way that 964 Porsche's (stock or modified / 'outlaw'ed) have been viewed the last few years...
more legitimate publicity the better. I agree it's great to see them in rags again! Sent using FerrariChat.com mobile app
We need more of this coverage for modern car enthusiast to respect the 355 as one of the last true ferraris from the purely analog era. I recently saw a meme that showed the 355 from fast and furious next to a supra where the ferrari owner in the movie says to Paul walker too much for you to afford, ferrari. And 20 years later the supra is worth more resale than the 355. This car hopefully is the start for motivating others to fall in love with the 355 once again.
Actually the 355 is one step past the analog era. 355 is the first of the non-analog Ferrari's are often considered the first "modern" Ferrari. The 348 was the last analog.
This because why, power steering? You could order an F355 with manual steering though not sure that is really a deciding factor here. Are 60's Ferrari's with power steering not analog?
Yes I thought the 355 is like the Porsche 993 where it was designed like most of the previous generations and changed with the 996 as did the ferrari with the 360. I feel it identifies more with the cars previous to it's time than the cars after its time. In fact 360 has nothing in similar feel to the 355 so I feel that's the dividing line.
No not at all steering is hydraulic your right that existed in 60's muscle cars there nothing modern about that you are correct. Of the top of my head electronic controlled suspension settings, factory fobs, and OBD2 with computers to make changes is a pretty big line to cross. Once you do that its all incremental there is nothing analog going on there. Prior to the 355 no computer needed. One could argue fuel injection and ecu makes it no longer analog. There is wiggle room in the definition of course. I use this criteria: Computer needed = modern. Electronic settings for suspension = modern Paddle shifters = modern Maybe first year 95 355 is analog.. but definitely 96+ 355 is modern to me.
My 355 has launch control, track mode, adaptive steering, drift mode, line lock, traction control, auto lowering suspension, torque vectoring, cruise control, variable ratio steering........ Ha So now your saying all the manual trans 355 the last true analog then? lol the 348 has ABS and ECUs... that means its super moden too. It all depends on how you define it, and obviously you have set your criteria for your reasons
Where did you get that from? I said the 1995 manual, (even then maybe), ONLY the 95. ABS came out in 1978. The 348 is not OBD and you cannot plug a computer into the ECU nor do you need one to clear ecu codes etc its hardly modern. Maybe speedo and tachs and cooling controlled by ECU is a better criteria? My criteria is pretty clear, OBD, Computer suspension. I think that is pretty good criteria. Debate where the line is, or just be sarcastic, pick the 348, how about 308 with carbs or even 512. All valid I would not argue with any of those.
I didnt mean to stir up debate about what is modern vs analog I guess I was referring to what some refer to as the last of a specific era and the line between current or next one; again however one chooses to categorize what goes where. Modern again can be so subjective because it depends on what you frame as modern. To younger car market the 355 is ancient in every way, similar to how you see a magnum pi ferrari back in 1995. Mind that the 308 was only around 15 years old then, whilst the 355 is 20+ years old today. We oldies only think it's not so old because we lived through seeing it launch only a few years ago in our mind. Definitely one car argue the 355 is closely related to the 348 more than the 360 in terms of how it was engineered and built. Someone told me the 355 was the last design that involved more penmanship vs computer aided design. Since I grew up in an era when cars already had ecu's and mafs, airbags etc. I dont classify analog vs modern by technical specs but rather eras of old school vs new. It definitely is more analog than even a 360 or anything else after without being super mec I didnt mean to stir up debate about what is modern vs analog I guess I was referring to what some refer to as the last of a specific era and the line between current or next one; again however one chooses to categorize what goes where. I shouldn't have used the word analog. Perhaps I should have said closest to feeling analog but the start of the modern era which it is. Definitely one car argue the 355 is closely related to the 348 more than the 360 in terms of how it was engineered and built. Someone told me the 355 was the last design that involved more penmanship vs computer aided. I think it was a turning point where you feel the old raw feeling of an old school ferrari yet having the daily driving comfort of what later modern exotic cars are built to have
No worries no debate, Drive a 348 and a 355 and you feel the difference. Enough said there many posts on this. The 355 is amazing and arguably the best looking Ferrari. The line can be drawn anywhere for analog cars even incorrectly but at the end of the day its impossible to get past the pesky fact that a car with a port that the owner can plug a lap top computer into and communicate with the car is anything but NOT Analog. Let alone select suspension settings from the drivers seat. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I can't how see how this matters in the least. I suppose the 348 is not analog as well you can plug a laptop computer into it as well with SD1
Out of all the criteria you could use to define those two terms, being able to plug it into a laptop would be one of the least relevant criteria. Like INTIMD8 set, you can plug the 348 in as well just not to an AutoZone OBD2 code reader. (And and even to 355 didn't conve from the factory with a working OBD2 port until after Ferrari did a recall.) To me, a fully analog car, would be fully mechanical, no circuitry whatsoever. F348 has plenty of circuitry in it, and program computer modules are running quite a few things. Anyway, out of all the things we could be discussing, this is got to be up there as the most asinine, subjective and irrelevant things LOL
lol it does not matter. At all. btw I don't stand on the claim the 348 is the last analog i am saying the 355 is not. According ro the discourse the 348 is not analog, ok then great im good with that im not arguing. The 348 is not analog. ok. were all clear. This means the 355 cant be either. Clearly we all agree so not sure whats being debated here, ts very confusing. Pleae let me how to plug a laptopp into a 348 id love to know for my own education. thanks. But no it makes no difference at all. 355 is amazing regardless. all i said was the 355 is not analig. which its not. the rest was typical 355 uproar while agreeing with me at the same time. it is absurd i ageee.
The article on the plane yesterday. Whilst interesting, must say I was disappointed in the article as it lacked much of any technical detail; eg ride height was increased, ok by how much?
