Porsche produces two versions of the new Speedster. One with GPF for Europe and another without for other markets. They even had to go out of their way to engineer a unique placeholder for the GPF that mimics the extra back pressure that it creates.

On the face of it this seems like a UK vs US thing... lol

Surely, you can understand that all manufacturers have to be held to the same standards. What would the world populace think of governments letting affluent people off the hook, regarding their 500k supercars?

I see that you live in the UK. What did you do back in 2004-5, when smoking was banned in pubs and bars?

Its not a money or class vs. class issue. There is mathematically no advantage or disadvantage to the public whatsoever if the 812 VS has GPF or not. I would simply prove that the millions upon millions a year Camrys and Accords and such that the world populace owns is causing damage to the children through quite measurable particulate pollution. You can place the millions of filthy lawn mowers running each weekend in that category as well. Push the guilt where the math shows it belongs if you are concerned about guilt. Manufacturers do not have to be held to the same standards if their products are in different markets with vastly different use cases.

By the way I am far from an eco warrior, I am hesitant re the climate change agenda just being a socialist tool box. However management of our waste, sustainability and managing pollution is a different topic and hard to argue against its a desirability.

The US leads the way on technology but does seem to have a remarkably different view of these topics to the rest of the world. Most dressed up as freedom preservation, but ones freedoms should always be constrained if they affect others.

visited Vegas way more often and smoked there. Do be fair, I never really conducted much business in pubs anyhow, I chase the birds, take them to restaurants, then back to mine.... I can smoke later, and so can she! Hehehe

what the smoking ban did do was to effectively close 75% of pubs in the Uk, with more every week, as people simply stopped going out for a drink on such a scale. If they couldn’t turn into restaurants, they were mostly finished. While something is legal, they shouldn’t be able to blanket ban it, regardless of health or anything. There should be provision, like in Vegas actually, where smoking is allowed in certain places, and people have a choice whether to frequent them or not. Bars can have smoking and non-smoking sections

Indeed all microphones. And looks like a new exhaust. I would bet this is GPF sound testing. No other good reason for so many mics in one place. Looks like they are capturing the full envelope of sound. Makes sense its for GPF since the F8 and Pista customers have been so serious about loss of sound impacting orders.

i think we need to be patient. Sounds with gpf may be not so good now but we can't say it'll remain the same. May be they'll come up with a solution .

More likely has to do with compliance with new sound regulations, rather than customer complaints.

Once again, it doesn’t matter if they come up with a solution if the government won’t allow anything over a certain dB level. We must face reality, there is no solution for this.

Ferrari will sounds like prius moving forward while electric cars will be required to breakthrough a certain dB threshold. Pretty soon there will be laws limiting how loud or soft you can speak in public. Heaven forbid someone’s eardrums are hurt! Boy do I love 21st century politics!

There is a GPF highjacking thread trend that starts to be really annoying.

Ironically, inclusion of the GPF will help Ferrari comply with EU noise regulations...

Agreed, GPF is very annoying, and even more so because no one yet knows what it will do to the V12 sound, we already know it severely limits turbo V8 sound as evidenced by so many F8 videos.

and, what are these strange baffles in the exhaust:

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

Appears they are there to RESTRICT SOUND:

Those shown on the 812 mule are different almost as if they are electronically adjustable...

Our only real hope lies with the after market... Capristo, Novitec etc will do very well supplying replacement rear boxes and GPF-delete products... I have just ordered the GTS and plan to use every after market mod possible to frustrate the EU-dictated cr*p....

This implies that GPF is irrelevant to the 812VS discussion. I would vehemently argue to the contrary, which is supported by the hundreds of posts in this thread regarding the topic and the handfuls of cancelled orders of post-2020 model year 812s due to concerns over this. It will remain relevant until we finally understand what effect it will have on our cars moving forward, which will not occur until the general public has a chance to drive and experience them first hand.

As much as I hate talking about it, it will likely remain the most relevant topic in any thread discussing future Ferrari’s for the next several months until we all have a better understanding of what this actually means to us as customers.

I called Novitec last month and spoke directly with one of their engineers. They have no plans to develop a GPF replacement product, due to threat of huge fines or even imprisonment for breaking the law. Direct quote: We don't want to go to jail.

OK. But the reality is that there are plenty of GPF-delete products on the market already for other vehicles (one example below). I presume these are sold on the same basis as cat-replacement products: technically illegal for road use, but the manufacturer isn't liable if you choose to ignore that... as such, I can see a market opportunity for suppliers of GPF-delete products... I will be first in line!

Novitec has produced cat delete products for years which are illegal. I wonder what has changed? Maybe the new laws have harsher penalties for breaking them?

Good question. He did also mention concern about the ECU reprogramming necessary to properly facilitate GPF defeat.

I love these cars built was just in Doha on business, stayed at the Mondrian which is on a highway. The locals thrashing their cars for fun was really noisy and Knightsbridge in London not much better. Agree that on a country lane etc its fabulous. Wish we could allow responsible dB !!
