First night in Italy, stopped in Rome for one of my very favorite restaurants in the world. Had a fried artichoke and two pastas - Amatriciana and carbonara. The egg sauce for the carbonara is thick and creamy and impossible to replicate (pardon the sorta gross pic of a bit of sauce on the plate, but I wanted y’all to see this).

Love this place. If anyone is making better hearty, rustic, simple, ingredient-driven pasta in the world, I haven’t found it.

Had one of their rare reservations thankfully (booked back on sept 16) as the line for folks without one was at least 40 people (for a place that sits less than that).

When in Rome, well, you know...(but call a month ahead)

Think Noodleman is out again. UFC prelims start in 15 minutes and in boxing, have Canelo vs Kovalev tonight. Have my dad and brother over. My brother doesn't like Seafood or Id get sushi take out for us or Fish and Chips. With brother options are limited. Its either pizza or get Chicken at Popeyes. The Popeyes just opened in my town.

Well that was easy...…. Checked the freezer, have chicken cordon bleu from Costco and some frozen fries. I'm going to make that!

Worked evenings this past week and had to dine-n-dash (no pics). Boss cooked supper. COTA weekend. Ate pastor fajitas at Trudy’s in Austin....skipped rice, tortillas and chips to have 2 beers......ok had a few chips and queso.

I'm debating between the noodle place or Popeyes. The negative on the noodle place is its in the next town over. Its a drive of about 30 minutes each way. Don't feel like driving.

A bit of a gemische since I wanted to try a little of everything. Turkey, dressing, green beans, sweet potatoes with a pecan topping, a really funky slaw with sunflower seeds. All of it tasted great.

We even had the winning bid on the chocolate cake that one of the ladies baked to raise money for the community center.

Yeah went the weekend with my son, couldn't do Friday. Last night on the way back to school in Seguin, we stopped at Smitty's Market (BBQ) in Lockhart- no forks, you have to eat it with your hands or grab it with white bread to make rollovers.

How was the Q at Smitty's. The one time I went, about 10 years ago, I was not impressed. Thought Kreuz was much better. Ditto for Blacks. I'm guessing I must have had a bad brisket or something.

Yesterday would have been my mom's 89th birthday.

So, I busted out the Mauviel and whipped up one of her specialities from when we were kids. Egg drop soup!

Usually, it was chicken soup that she would fortify with a few noodles thrown in (I used brown rice) and then she'd heat it up to a rolling boil and swirl in a beaten egg or two to extend it.

Thanks! I love my Mauviel cookware! They're a joy to use.
But, as you said, they're heavy.

Since Popeyes just opened last Friday, its crazy busy. Too busy for me. Ended up going across the street to McDonalds for a big mac combo.

Tonight I don't feel like going out. There is a new co-op grocery store near my house. They have rotisserie chickens on sale. Got one. Chopping it up and making a casserole.

I lucked out about 2 years ago. I flew into some podunk town. In Connecticut, I think.
There was a brand new Popeyes across the street from the hotel I stayed at. Regional manager was there, everything sparkly clean, all staff on best behavior. Yummy. Not as good as Uncle Albert's fried chicken in Boyce, Louisiana, but for a chain, yumbo!

    If, within the next 48 hours, you don't get a bunch of that local Popeyes that the rest of us have been tortured/reminded of 783 times over the last few months, In no certain order, 3 things will happen;

    Ban
    Hitman

Popeyes is pretty good chicken wise. I don't like their sides. I stole my dads old iPhone6 for pictures. Its not very good. Better then nothing. My creation was a bunch of mixed veggies, can of mushroom soup. Topped with stuffing and cheddar cheese. It was ok. Image Unavailable, Please Login
