I meant the actual dripping with the car off, not that the seal wouldn’t be capable of leaking a bunch through on/off cycles. That pic to me shows a oily wet mess, was it actively leaking briskly with the car off as compared to with the engine running? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Update on my leaking seal - so this is very hard to tell how much since the oil sits in the Belly pan before leaking on the floor - but it seem the leak has gotten better I am not seeing oil on the ground - I find this very puzzling seals normally don't fix themselves - I have driven the car several times in the last few weeks - road are still snow and salt free but not for much longer. Anyone have any thoughts ? The clutch is still good and the car runs really good? One note the car will soon be sitting for several months winter is coming!
I am lost here, the throw out bearing is a bearing yes? no fluid to leak...you must be referring to the slave cylinder activating the bearing yes? I would be a little hesitant running bars stop leaking in the brake system but if you only bled the clutch...all fluids should head to the distribution block in the rear of the car and possibly not enter the braking systems....shared with the clutch...or is it different with the F1? are you F1? can't remember and too lazy to look back in the thread...cheers!
Since the 348, Ferrari has a very unique design where the slave cylinder and the throw out bearing are integrated as one unit.
I did an inspection after I noticed the pool on the ground - after removal of the belly pan the leak was between the engine and the transaxle - the clutch and pressure plate looked clean which would eliminate the slave as the leak -
Clutch release bearing (aka commonly called throw out bearing) for these cars has a hydraulic slave built in. I believe the F1 & 3pdl parts are technically similar except different seals because of different fluid (f1 vs dot 3 brake fluid). Mine is a three pedal. Sorry forgot to mention that. My macgyver method wouldn’t work for a F1. I also wouldn’t put bars leaks into a F1 tranny, that would be a recipe for disaster for you and a new boat for your mechanic. Remainder of your points are valid and I believe addressed them in my post. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Neil22 I’ve got the same leak on my 360. Seeps oil out of the main seal. Have ordered the rear mail seal and rear crankcase housing gasket and will replace when time comes to change clutch. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That is often, actually more often a leak at the rear edge of the oil pan. The sealing surface there is very narrow and if it was one of the cars that used silicone to seal it instead of anerobic sealant, leakage there is very common.
Well I’d much rather it be that then the rear main. I’ll drop the pan and reseal. Thanks for the heads up on the possible pan leakage Riverdriver! Do you have a preferred anerobic sealant you use for the sump pan?
I will let Brian answer since he is the expert but I thought this was the perferred sealant ..at a few years ago on a TR Loctite 37394 Anaerobic Gasket Maker - 1.69 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007XB4R80/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_gRS8DbTC34MZY Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
Yea, 518. Get a good look in there first. You should be able to see it before taking it all apart but the oil pan is easy to get off.
Image Unavailable, Please Login I don't disagree with Brian that it can be the oil pan. That oil pan is easy to get to. In the case of this 360 whose picture is shown here, it was definitely the rear main seal. The repair of that seal requires the gear box to be removed, the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel also had to come out to access the RMS. It was a pretty big job.
Mine seems to be weeping - drove the car a last week and no oil appeared under the car. I pulled the belly pan down mid summer and there was oil between the engine and the trans axle. I am getting ready to change the oil and do the annual service - will re-inspect and check the oil pan. if the seal is leaking I am of the mind set to wait until the car needs a clutch unless the leak gets much worse - have been checking the oil there is no sign of loosing any oil over the last 500 - 600 miles.
Advice - here - I pulled the belly pan and pulled the inspection cover very little oil there I would would say if its leaking at the seal its very little. I had cleaned this the last time I took the cover off. What i did find is the back of the valve cover is leaking pretty good not sure if its running down the side of the engine to the oil pan or if the oil pan is leaking as well. it the back of the valve cover just a gasket or is there additional seals necessary? Below are some pictures i took
In The second pic looks like it’s the cam inspection cover that’s leaking. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
yes - that just a gasket or is there something else? there was oil dripping from the oil pan bolt in the photo as well
