Ferrari F8 Tributo

a 12 minute test drive of the F8 in 31F deg., while the 488 GTB looked understated, this car looked a lot more interesting, the rear looks playful as the front looks a lot more technical and fierce. The star wheels add a lot more depth to the wheel well and photographs well at an angle. Upon entering the cabin, it looked a lot more minimalist vs the 488 GTB, it looks sleek. I jokingly told myself the steering wheel looked felt like i was driving a Honda Civic, but the view of the instrument cluster was much better, more airy. The seat hight adjustor was great, (on the racing seats) always wanted to fine tune the driving position. At idle, you really cant hear the engine. ( i thought the engine was off- it was windy outside as well). The hot tube does not help here at all. Drove on auto, it shifts really fast ( vs 488)to get to the higher gear even if your foot remains steady, guess all that torque makes that a no brainer. I concentrated on the sound in this drive vs the 488. It seems not to have that 4K valve opening change in the sound(488). On moderate acceleration the sound progression and the change in speed feels synchronized and seamless even when shifting. There was no gurgling sounds to be had on down shifting and lifting. The quality of the sound if to me is a refined kind of power sound track. the sound coming from the left shoulder area( no visible hot tube orifice) is a good amplification of sound.. almost like when you drive with maybe a half of the window down on the 488 when you are cruising. when accelerating ,you cannot localize the direction. My conclusion.. the great feel of the agility of the car, it s begging to go fast, to hit those engine notes on demand. Sound engineers did a great job given all the challenges. ( Now if they can make the idling noise better.. )

F8 delivery in March 2020 if all goes well.

 

Upon review there is still that valve at around 4k that gives the growl.

 

Based on these videos, the F8 sound is uninspiring. Hopefully hearing it in person will be more satisfying.

 

the sound won’t be there, but I expect it to be a dynamic marvel.

 

The soundtrack is a bit mute but the movie is great.

 

Looking forward to driving one myself, just notified we will have them here Dec 10th-14th

 

Like the man said.. im not sure if people will prefer louder sounds vs more power.

 

The limited iphone mic on the console a bit rear of the seats, picked up a lot of road noise as well, does not do justice. I should have used at least my session 5 gopro mounted in my cap but the battery was kaput. Someone please do this if test drive is sched.

 

It really is a beautiful car in person, looks so much better than the pics. And it is brutally fast!

What do you think about option COLL. (The black strip on the bonnet in front of the windshield wipers.) or should it be just be painted in body color. i e dont order this option?

 

My dealer said it looks funny in body color and encouraged me to have that option.

 

I rejected the option since I fail to see any value in it.

 

aside from the sell as much options as possible, what is the idea behind this option ya think?

if i was a sales person i would say it creates a sense of visual depth in the bonnet/ windshield( separation in photo speak) , agree w you.. they should not charge extra for this, but that is Ferrari.

 

My buddy just specced his F8 spider. He requested this option. He was given a preliminary cost of the car and THIS option had no cost. Not saying it will ultimately be free. Just saying dealer said he had no charge for this option.

I just placed my order and it cost $1266.00

 

It was claimed as no cost in the Ferrari litterature but was actually quoted EUR 900 in the french price list (at least one is allowed to skip it - unlike the "free of charge" carbon package of the Pista, which was not only about EUR 24K but was also mandatory).
