Same/similar design, but different plastic. Originals are white, new replacements are yellow. Time will tell if the replacements will fail too. My originals lasted 13 years. I would be just fine with the replacements lasting that long. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Hi Sam ,where did you source the pumps and any special tools required? Ring nut hand tighten or wrench needed? Thanks ,Mike
I bought the pumps from Ricambiamerica.com, and I used a coupon code from the “Normal guy supercar” YouTube channel for a little bit of a discount. No special tools needed. Everything unclips and unscrews like a normal car. The ring nut is plastic, and I tightened it by hand, then used a hammer and a punch to snug it up. The pump housing and the tank are notched, so they only fit one way. It really is an easy job, if you’re a do-it-yourselver. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Sam, I don't know what discount code you used to get them both for $400 from post #19 but 6 months later they are $636.56 ea for 181204 and 181205. Inquiring minds want to know how to get them that cheap. https://www.ricambiamerica.com/car-diagrams/ferrari/v12/gt-group-2-seat/599/fuel-pump.html
These part numbers are listed both for Ferrari and Maserati 4200 but significantly cheaper if sourced as Maserati part. I checked Eurospares but none in the stock.
Loctite 406 (40640) 406 Prism Instant Adhesive (Wicking Grade), 20 Gram Bottle is supposed to work very well in sealing cracks, I suppose as long as new ones do not develop. Regards, Alberto
Hello Samuel. I would like to change my 599 pumps but fuel started squirting out from the fuel line when I disconnected it from the pump cap. How do I stop this? Disconnect the battery? Please Email me at [email protected] or call me at 3059512839. Thanks
Disconnect the battery. Bleed the rails, as there is leftover pressure. Of course, when you open the door, the fuel pumps start so possibly your does too. . Careful with auto windows and leave trunk open. There are a lot of booby traps to the uninitiated. I got stuck with my trunk shut and the battery disconnected, had to energize the system with another battery to the starter motor. You might also wait a few days. Mine squirted, so I just dried out the fuel by installing secondary hoses to drain any left over fuel. Mine is a Maserati, same fuel pumps. Best to buy from the UK. Regards, Alberto
Mine from Eurospares, or Scuderia UK. Both super reliable and less than $500 including shipping. Regards, Alberto
Easier said than done Where would you drain it from? Into 2, 18 gallon plastic ones, cheap and easy. In the case of the Maser, you have to remove the filler neck and that one, is a real doozy. When I did find the leak the tank was full, try shuffling it around the trunk, in a 599 might be easier Regardless, in my case, major pain in the rear. Regards, Alberto
My 2007 599 pumps started to leak last week. 23,000 miles. In the shop now for new ones at $1200 each plus labor. I was advised at the time of the PPI that pumps were going to be an issue. Given the valve of the car, its age and mileage it is a relatively lower cost problem compared to other problems. My Mercedes was going to cost me $5K for a front sway bar! It went to trade in. Go figure right.
In case it is of interest, I bought the 2 new pumps at the places I mentioned 3 years ago. Took out the old ones and sealed them. So far so good. Now we are really good at doing the exercise, so the new pumps will remain in the box. If the glue fails, out they go and replace. Best of luck! Regards, Alberto
I've got this problem as well. The left-side fuel pump is leaking fumes, but no visible fluid just yet. The cap is "greasy" to the touch and smells strongly like fuel. It started about 10 days ago so it's a recent problem. 2006 612 with 39,500 miles. Of course, my fuel tank is better than 3/4 full...! I was wondering, can I siphon the fuel from the fuel filler neck? I don't really want to push it out from the fuel rails with the fuel pumps (factory WSM-recommend procedure) since the left one is already suspect. And to drain it from the drain plug (Owner's manual recommended procedure) would be a huge pain also with high risk of spilling since several fuel containers would be required for the ~20 gallons of gas to be drained. Siphoning it from the fuel filler neck really would be ideal. Has anybody tried that?
Hello Gentlemen. I was able to visually confirm that the left-side fuel pump is leaking, as is common. My attempt to siphon fuel from the filler neck was unsuccessful due to a valve that is internal to the filler neck. I can see no easy way to get a siphon tube down the filler neck because of this. Instead, I removed the right-side vent/rollover valve and was able to siphon over 15 gallons of fuel from there. The rollover valve is easy to remove, it is simply held in place by a 1/4 turn cam. After disconnecting the vent line from the fuel vapor separator (the silver, rectangular component mounted to the top/center of the fuel tank), turn the vent valve counterclockwise 1/4 turn and you can then wiggle and lift it right out. You have direct access to the fuel from there. I did jack the driver's side of the car slightly to make it easier to get all of the fuel out. I used three 5-gallon fuel jugs and one 2 gallon jug, without spilling a drop of fuel. My tank is almost completely empty now. Next task will be to loosen the fuel tank mounting and connections so I can slide the tank back. More to follow.. Here is the pump I bought. Genuine Bosch pump and direct replacement for Ferrari 181205 as used on 599 and 612. This is the "left" pump. Amazon has it labeled wrong. $261 + free shipping and 30-day return policy...I think it's a pretty good deal. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BHGAZV0/ref=pe_386300_440135490_TE_simp_item_image
2008 599gtb with 25k miles and started smelling fuel. Left drivers side is original fuel pump but was ok- turned out it was the passenger side fuel pump with the crack. Bless this thread, saved me about $1k difference hunting for the parts independently from the shop using a mix mash of the Maserati vs Ferrari version pumps and will be replacing both while in there.
Can confirm. One is a Ferrari part no, the other is a Maserati. Now we just need the generic Bosch part no for ultimate savings. Image Unavailable, Please Login
