I asked my wife and partner of decades, Naughty Cowgirl, if she would mind if I sold Guido, our 550, for a billion dollars. She said sure but the sale would trigger a divorce and she would get half of the billion. She would then buy the car back and keep the change. So I guess I'll just keep the car...

Can't even imaging what the heat index in the UAE does to the interiors of these cars....It must turn all the switches to goo in no time.

    Looks like a distressed sale.

The listing indicates that the MOT certificate will be issued at the seller’s expense... but it appears that it failed an MOT test on 13th Nov with a long list of ‘major defects’, which is all the more surprising since it has barely been used in recent years.

Nothing that can’t be resolved by throwing a cheque book at it but whose cheque book will it be? Sold as seen or with a valid MOT certificate?

The sales pitch does not reflect well on the auctioneers...

I’m sure it will be a nice car once properly recommissioned but would imagine that the job sheet will probably need to include some trim work.

Try selling that car again in the UK, you’d be lucky to get the same for it. Euro car that lived in dust storm land for years, LHD, miles hard to document. MOT fail or not (and as we know, a bad car can pass an MOT), pretty much the bottom of the heap of available cars with a very limited pool of buyers.

It may actually be a nice car, but it’s not a desirable example.

Time will tell of course ,maybe it went back to the Continent?

The last owner did the majority of the KM over the first 6 years of his ownership and used very little since 2017.Sounds like has some invoices for his ownership at least.

What else can you buy for 50K,let alone a 12 cyl Ferrari?

I believe with today’s fast fwd moving technology, that these cars will be old like the Daytona in just a few years. The US makes some interesting new cars but the overall picture is old fashioned compared to Europe. But when the Prius became the new NY taxis, it show that the US will follow... The prising is quite interesting to me becaus the old classics from the 60ies to 80ies will without doubt still be attractive and valutablokken collector items. The next classics to come like the 456/550/575 will be just as outdated as the 275/Daytona etc. are today. As long as electric cars become the new standard, the 90-ies cars might be the «next Daytona». They are some of very few truly collectible cars from the 90-ies.

Erik, the XJ220 was on my list though the Shamal wasn’t.
A few more that spring to mind

    Bugatti EB110
    RR Corniche IV
    Bentley Continental Turbo
    Porsche 964 Turbo/S
    TVR Cerbera

There were lots of potential classics and some already classics in the nineties, and in many cases they were made in significant numbers. (Just taking one esoteric example, there were thousands of TVRs, front engined rear drive two seater cars with no electronic aids that can out accelerate a 550.) Maybe that’s also why Maranello prices are low currently.

I can't figure out how they get my private number but I get serious inquiries several times a year for our 550 (aka Guido). The common theme seems to be they want a manual Ferrari, that's reliable, fast and has a somewhat reserved style. A recent call was someone that wanted to do a straight trade for a very low miles, last year FF. That actually caught my attention but Cowgirl gave me The Look and that immediately ended it. My point is 550s may not be a 'collectable' yet but they seem to be increasing in their desirability.

The FF is a much better car than the 550, but the 550 is a much better Ferrari.

But quite a number of no-sales. The Ferraris seemed to do rather well however. What an odd market place but, then again, we live in odd (disconcerting?) times.

Only 11 of 36 cars sold in the auction. Hardly a hot bed or motivated buyers! I agree the 550 sold strongly. Probably the only car in the entire sale to do so. Not sure this can be interpreted as anything other than an outlier sadly.
