Listening to F1’s “Beyond the Grid” podcast and it got me thinking: if you could have lunch with any F1 driver, current or past, who would you choose, and why?

For me it would be Mika Hakkinen. Between the interviews I’ve heard and a firsthand account from an (admittedly attractive female) friends he seems to be a very funny, thoughtful interesting guy who would be terrific to talk to.

But that’s today’s pick - who is yours?

I would like to ask Alonso if he had played his hand a little differently would he still be in F1 as a driver.

From the current crop? Nobody really interests me enough.

    From among the living? Andretti.

    All time? de Portago.

Among the all-time F1 drivers, it's difficult to chose between Graham Hill, or Niki Lauda, both departed unfortunately.

Among the living that would be Mario Andretti or Jacky Ickx.

If it has to be among the current drivers, that would be Daniel Ricciardo.

There are a few old french drivers who may have interesting stories to tell - Prost may be too serious but I'm thinking of René Arnoux, Jacques Laffitte or Jean-Pierre Jabouille.
From earlier times I have been lucky to be at the same table as Charles Pozzi and his racing memories from when he was driving Delahaye and Talbot were fascinating.
At the other end of the spectrum, from current drivers maybe Charles Leclerc would be very interesting to talk with.

Ooh! Good call on Danny Ric! That would be a fun dinner.

Other current drivers, Kimi, naturally. And I would really like to sit and chat with George Russell. That young gent is a far, far better driver than the Williams allowed him to show this year. I would love to hear him talk about how he stays motivated, and what he sees in the future. I’ll go out in a limb right now and say I think he is a future WDC in the making. Just not in a Williams, sadly.

George Russell has to get out of his 3 years contract with Williams, or he will never be noticed.

Assuming that they even want to talk about cars, for me it would be Prost or Andretti. Brundle would be my runner up.

All time - Schumi from his Ferrari days.
Of the current grid Daniel Ric or Charles le Clerc.
