Again IMO and we can agree to disagree but to me Taycan will go down as the "flop" of the decade. Already a Model S Tesla wipes it out at the Ring and when the Tesla roadster is delivered, Taycan will look like a bus. Also Porsche might have a great reputation in the ICE/turbo world but is has zero (and I mean a flat zero) credibility in the EV world - nor does it have any IP that tried and tested. BTW: There 800V is unique to them - oh great even more untried and untested tech from a company that knows nothing about EV's

And bud re "detractors" why would you even think its got anything to do with you. Off course i know you could order one tomorrow if u liked it. Maybe its because I will whip your a*se in my GT4 :)

I found with Ferrari their cars are so basic in stock trim you really need to spend at least 200 on options just to get it to look and feel the money. It's a good trick but it's wearing thin now when the competition is offering most of these high cost features as standard equip. The other thing with options is that they don't return well where if the car is standard with most features it creates a more price stable used market. I hope you are right with SF90 but keep in mind Ferrari's latest hybrid tech is many others tech of yesteryear which kind of defeats any argument you are buying something new in that field of technology. I think a lot of the bubble and fiz surrounding SF90 is currently based upon having the 1000hp figure. Not sure how long that fiz will last....

    1. Doesn't appear to be a short term fad unfortunately. Hybrid really is nothing new in tech given electric is the seeming future at this stage. Is Ferrari at the leading edge of future tech in comparison to others? Doesn't look like it.

    2. Let's. But that's ok. But I was referring to a lot more than just the physicality of these two - was more to do with being a viable proposition all things considering.

    3. This has some truth in it BUT when it comes down to the actual emotional driving characteristics, the ability to actually utilize the available performance/additional power frequently enough, along with the reliability, practicality, and then affordability in the used market to return adequate return upon resale to the original purchaser, one (Taycan) seems to make equally as much sense and in most cases a lot more sense than the other.

That's cool bro. No hard feelings even though I completely disagree with you on the likely-hood that Taycan will prove a flop. And Testla - you cant be serious. That is the ugly bus no question and with the driving dynamics of a flying brick of lead with billy cart suspension tech. You wouldn't catch me dead in one of those.

Now on to that Gt4 of yours.
Dude let's get real here ok. The only reason you take that car on group drives all the time - leaving the precious Ferrari and Lambo at home wrapped up in cotton wool - is because not only do you know the gt4 will always start the next day but because you know you can cut keep up with the macs and fezzas. This only further serves as evidence all that 1000hp will prove completely useless and in-fact become an Achilles heel out in the wild...and real world! I also told you that if I bring the gt2 it will be unfair on you and I really mean it.:)

Not necessarily. All companies have said on record that they are researching many paths forward, including ICE.

Ferrari is using the latest generation of axial flux electric motors made by UK based YASA.

    https://www.yasa.com/news/ferrari-selects-yasa-for-sf90-stradale/

    https://www.yasa.com/electric_motor_manufacturing

Besides mild hybrids, PHEV will be a mainstream electrification strategy in Europe for the next decade so Ferrari is in fact on the leading edge of this trend for extreme performance cars and not ‘yesteryear’ as you suggested. It also seems they are partnering with a supplier who offers state of the art solutions. I personally think that PHEV offers the best compromise for high performance applications. Users get to keep the practical and emotional aspects of ICE’s plus a performance boost, while the car companies are able to maintain brand/model powertrain differentiation as well as meet future CO2 regulations.

Sure, one could say PHEV as a concept is not new however applications to-date are limited and rely on first generation technology.

I understand you dislike the styling of the car (you may have mentioned it once or twice), but why make such general statements and assumptions about the technology or Ferrari’s execution of it? Wouldn’t it be more prudent to wait until we learn more and judge how well it’s been executed through journalist tests and owner reviews?

I‘d be extremely surprised if it didn’t drive or perform well Scrappyb.

My main criticism is where the brand has sacrificed trademark elements of light weight and sound and delivered a polarizing design at a time they could least afford to. I also thought the Senna design was quite polarising and personally felt Ferrari didn’t need to go to that type of extreme to remain relevant. They’ve always produced a very attractive car at this high price point.
However at least with Senna it doesn’t share the same complications and up close and personal looked very bespoke overall. I didn’t get that same feeling when I saw Sf90 and like a lot of people who saw it lost interest very quickly showing far more desire and interest in lesser models. That wasn’t the case when la ferrari was put on display so it cant be said the people lost interest because they may not have been able to afford the car.

As i said I’m sure it will drive well but it has clearly not garnered the level of interest love and excitement that would generally occur around a car of this caliber and value. And i am of the firm belief the design has a lot to answer for that.

I'm sorry, but you call the Taycan an "abomination"....yet design wise, I would say it's far more aesthetic than the SF90. Who is to doubt that Porsche will kill it in the electric arena from the get go? I would rather wait for the next gen battery tech to go down the Porsche route, but I am certain they will make a success of the space. Let Ferrari come out with a more cohesive design first before we start calling Porsches effort an abomination. I love Ferrari, but personally I feel the SF90 is a mess of a design in soooo many areas. Subjective opinion only of course.

So really u are just sh*t scared I will whip you butt in the GT4 :) Oh and the GT2 doesn't have too much HP :)

Back to the SF90 - 1000hp - same argument could be said about the 918 btw which I absolutely love. If you have not driven either (and I assume you havn't) lets wait and see as the debate is academic until then..

Bud this has nothing to do with being butt whipped and everything to do with the redundancy of SF90's huge power and weight out in real world driving on a long distance point to point run. You know I haven't driven 918 but would take one hands down over sf90 but they are not street registerable here as you know and probably also not suitable over the distance. And gt2 has 700hp and is very nimble and light with ridiculous race car precision - gt4's handling would be outclassed in the tight stuff and on the short stretches between corners, and, on straights would become a vanishing spec in the rear view in next to no time at all and then I will never know whats happened to you unless I pull over or turn around and drive back to find you. No sense trying to kill yourself bro. It's game over - not game on.:)Looks like I'm gonna have to bring the 3 next time to make sure you don't kill yourself trying to keep up. Better still dust off that perf or the speciale and lets see how how it fares (against the 3r) - it you can bare the thought of getting the wheels dirty and cop a little chip here and there:).

I will be waiting for you !! :)

BTW: The 918 owner I spoke to suggested an SF90 would be a better proposition than the 918 today. Interesting conclusion

We are just joking around. Shack is always fantasizing over the true capability of his beloved gt4. Nothing new there.

And that is where it needs to stay for your own sakes bro!:) We need to keep you alive and well.

PS re mhh I'm pretty sure he will retain his 918 and get sf90 but not swap the 918 for it.

How so? Turbo sound, roof is fixed, will depreciate a ton, looks mediocre, not collectible/rare...

Can't think of a single thing about the SF90 that would make it a better proposition than a 918.

Turbo sound is the only real disadvantage.
There are people who prefer coupes.
Depreciation is an unknown, but not being a limited model it is likely. We are talking cars though, not money.
    Appearance is subjective.
It will most likely perform better than the 918.

I think the 918 is gorgeous, but it is a hard choice. Over here in Switzerland a good 918 is 1.1-1.2m CHF...A decently specced SF90 is 600k (without Asseto Fiorano pack).
The SF90 will depreciate materially, my guess is it will drop 200k+ over 3 years
However the 918 is dropping too and personally I expect them trading 100-200k lower next year as the model gets older, faster cars are launched, eroding its performance advantage and people realise that 918 production is not that small. All of the 2012-13 hypercars, including the LaF are dropping in this part of the world.

So from a depreciation standpoint, the drop is similar and the cost of funding is larger for the 918 as the purchase price is higher.

I have no question in my mind that the SF90 will outperform the 918. it comes 8 years later, Ferrari would have failed if it didn’t

Don’t get me wrong, I’d still like a 918 in my garage...

Problem with 918 is the EU70k battery (ex installation) should you need one and no possibility of extra warranty (I am told). So your 918 depreciation could turn very nasty. SF90 on the other-hand has 3 years hassle free motoring and plenty warranty options after that.

While I absolutely love the 918 I am not a fan of surprises that require an open chequebook.

Playing on the configurator quite a bit gets one a sub 550k CHF very acceptable SF90 but then I am not a fan of CF so it makes it easier
