    No remorse at all!

As a business owner, you weigh up risk, cost and you either jump in with both feet or you move on.

If it doesn't work out, you sell, absorb your losses and move on the next strategy. I apply that method to business and personal purchase decisions.

Shamile, he's biggest issue seems to be the 'guilt' which I'm trying to tease out from him on why?

I am chiming in from the perspective of a 72 year old who was active in Ferrari’s back in the 1970’s.

Back then, these were just cars, albeit the best cars, but just cars nonetheless. Nobody knew they’d become nuanced asset purchases coveted by the cult of Ferrari.

I had a lot of fun buying a 246 Dino ($12K), Daytona ($20K) for street cars and race cars nobody wanted, GTO ($50K) and 512S (one of 6 original at $35K) with a ton of spare parts worth more than the car.

I used these cars as they were meant to be driven until I got sick and tired of looking at them. No joke.

Do I regret selling them? Sure, from a financial POV but all that’s in hindsight. I was younger and I was done with that phase of car ownership. The next step for me was Vintage F1, but that’s a whole other story.

Today, I’m an old man looking for my last ride, maybe a 456. It still doesn’t change the fact it’s just a car. Don’t get caught up in the trap of it being more than it is. That is to say if you’ve got nothing more in your life than your car, then go for it. Join the clubs, do the tours, be judged not by who you are but what you drive. It’s an existence but the validity of the existence is debatable.

The same holds true for motor sports in general. But that’s a subject for a different time.

    Hell yeah!

I just hit the 74,000 mile mark on my concours condition daily driver 91 Testarossa.

I see it exactly as you do. It a great car to drive and have fun with.

Well, the OP did say he was 14...so, perhaps a lot of growing up to do first.

OP, By the time that you have a Ferrari.. you're going to know if you REALLY want it. It's going to probably be a goal that you've worked hard for. Any goal that you work hard for won't give you remorse. I have no remorse about the gorgeous car in my garage... because its something that I really wanted.

IMO the OP is perhaps the type of person who regrets buying anything of high quality or comparative higher cost when something lesser will suffice. We all know the type. Wants and dreams about that new car. Visits dealers and takes the brochures home and reads them over and over. But when push comes to shove they buy the practical used DD maybe even a hybrid. Same with homes. Dreams of mansions and large lots but settles for an end unit townhouse because its just more practical. Nothing wrong with this but its not a person who buys a half million dollar Ferrari and then "loses" $150K in value in a year. Whats different here is that the OP is young enough to actually express the paradox being felt unlike when much older and has already convinced himself that second best is a solid choice.

Only one time. Moving from a 458 coupe to a 458 spider. I thought they softened it too much for my taste.

I still think the F430 spider is a wonderful car. Maybe not as good overall as a 458 but it still has a bit of old school in it.

Lets face it -- they are all good. It just depends on individual tastes.

I don’t want to get in a argument but here are 4 things that I need to say.
    1. I never said BMW or any brand was bad and I never “went there” with anything.
    2. I also feel like that last line at the end of your post I’m replying to kind of a sounds like your mocking me. I don’t know if you meant it in that way but it sounds like it.
    3. Yes, my reasons do shift like sand. But the real reason of this whole discussion was “ does anyone else have buyer remorse and if they did they manage to get pass it after buy a exotic/sports car?”
    4. And I feel like since your a moderator/owner you shouldn’t be attacking or saying things that were never said.

Well said. Granted we are talking to a 14-year-old (that's High school age), but as I said earlier, when I was in high school, I think I had a level of maturity where I wouldn't tell a bunch of car enthusiasts (before I am even driving myself) that I worry a Ferrari (812 to be specific) won't meet my standards of handling.

    That's some hutzpah...

    Mr. Butt head,

You still did not answer my question. I'm thinking of buying a rocket to Mars, but I worry Mars won't meet my expectations, also I feel sort of guilty about it. Can you give me your thoughts?

I've spent a lot of time answering your questions, yet you still haven't answered mine, that's not very nice.

After you answer it, I'll be happy to address your 4 points above.

I hear that, but as I said, when you were 14 did you ever go to a bunch of sports car enthusiasts and say your biggest worry is the Ferrari your planning to buy might not handle to your expectations?

    Maybe when I was 9?

I’ve only purchased three, a F12, a Performante, and a 812, the latter two I still own. My only regret was waiting so long. No other purchases, big or small, have given me near the pleasure and enjoyment. Looking to add a third car now. Can’t decide between a 2005/2006 Ford GT, 675LT, GT2 RS, or GT3 RS.
My recommendation is simple, if you have the resources, pull the trigger...today. If you don’t have the resources, but your passion is huge, and you can reasonably expect more resources down the road, get a loan and pull the trigger...today. The loan part will not be popular amount the Fchat crowd, but going from my own experience, I wish I would have done so a decade ago when my financial situation was promising, but not quite fully formed.

Ok, maybe I shouldn’t have asked a bunch a car enthusiasts that a Ferrari might not live up to my expectations at the sweet age of 14. But *YOU* need to explain why you said that I said BMW was not good enough and make me look bad. And don’t comeback at me with that mars question.

Me too. But I haven't even test-driven any yet. OTOH, listening to an F355 with a Capristo sort of does something to my central nervous system, so I think it'll probably be ok.

    All good.

You said here that an 812 Superfast might not handle as perfectly as you like.

    Yes?

Considering you're only 15, that's quite a bold prognostication. I even gave you the benefit of the doubt and asked if you are in F2, F3?

@bruno787 graciously gave a story of encouragement about wanting an E36.

I pointed out that if you are doubting the handling abilities of an 812, what chance does an E36 have to meet your handling criteria? Heck, say even a modern M3?

That is a far cry from saying you said "BMWs are bad."

Okay, why are we wasting time here now?

To the OP, I once told a guy who was not even a pre-med to go back and study MCAT first. He was asking the doctors here in this forum whether he will have enough time for vacation and whether he will make a million a year as plastic surgeon. I literally told him that asking what kind of running shoes he will wear in a Olympic 100 meter Sprint when he barely knows how to walk is simply stupid.

Same applies to you. The Mars question posted to you is only fair.

Either you are a troll or a clueless brat spoiled by life so far, if you talk the same way in real life. If not, please stop because this is a not a platform of keyboard warrior from basement.

    Imagine a 15-year-old:

Going into a room of programmers and saying he's afraid when he invents the next Google, it might not be as perfect as he imagined.
Telling Jordan, What happens if after I win my seven championships, and have regrets?
Going to Paul McCartney, and say: "well - I really love music, but I think I'll feel guilty after I accept my Grammy?"

    yeah, sort of like that...

Has he even heard the phrase "cart before the (in this case prancing) horse?"

Alright, here are 4 things for you.

    1. I didn’t say “I eXpEcT pErFeCt HaNdLeInG” I said I SHOULDN’T.
    2. And again never “went there” with anything.
    3. I never said “not good enough for me”
    4. So why don’t you stop saying things that aren’t true and start preventing arguments like these and not starting them since you are the moderator/owner and also trying take what I said and make it sound like it something that is not.

I’m not going argue with you guys anymore, so peace out and have a nice day.

Bye bye and have a nice day.

Just a friendly advice. Be humble. And you still have a real long way to go. Now go read a biography or something.
