    Hi folks

I’m in the process of buying a 2010 California and the dealer has just put it through its MOT and an advisory point has been raised that states ‘slight play in n/s steering arm’. The dealer is claiming they all suffer from that and even if the steering rack was replaced it would still be the same.

I assume he’s just trying to fob me off but thought I’d check here to see if there’s any truth in it. Assuming it’s a problem that’s going to get worse, what is the fix?

    thanks

    Hi Smithrax,
He’s fobbing you off, the steering arm including track rod ends are a press fit manufactured modern type, if there is play it should be replaced but it is the first time that i have heard about one needing replacement on a California, I’m not saying that they don’t wear out just that i have not heard of an epidemic of reports about the issue.
I to am a recent owner of a pristine low mileage California, I looked around for almost 2 years till I Found the one with perfect provenance but even after that careful search i have had to shell out £ on some dealer time.
I think that your panicking over nothing the car looks straight enough buy and enjoy, you will have your hand in your pocket at some stage as it’s a Ferrari after all ! :)

Thanks for the response. They’re going to look into the cost of the replacement but I don’t think they’re going to do it so the search for another one begins...

I don't know what an n/s steering arm is, but I m assuming that it is the inner tie-rod on the steering rack. Ferrari and the aftermarket do not sell this part separately from the steering rack. The rack costs roughly $5500 USD not including labor to install it and an alignment.
The dealership probably doesn't want to spend $6000 + on a part that has "slight play", would you?
