Excellent Fiskens TV video presented by Sam Hancock, and with Keith Bluemel, where the history and how very special the 12 275 GTB/C such as #09027 actually are is discussed as well as being driven around Goodwood.

"You have to know the subject to appreciate this properly."

Thank you for posting. A great look at a beautiful car.

Did they modify this car to overcome the cooling issues they had with that 275 in the '65 LeMans race?

Did Ferrari upgrade the brakes, too?

    Vinnie:

    1. The car at Le Mans 1965 was TOTALLY different and had cooling issues that may have been related to engine problems in addition to air flow.

    2. 9027 had standard GTB brakes except for harder DS11 compound and "quick change" pins for easier pad removal.

Joe: DS11 was the Ferodo competition brake pad material of the era. it was used up into the late 1990's by many racers. It is extremely hard and results in very hard pedal to push, but was very resistant to heat. Today, the newer carbon kevlar and ceramic pad compounds have far surpassed DS11 as the competition compound of choice. For some vintage racers, we still use DS11, as it is fairly easy on rotors. To my knowledge, it is no longer available, but many years ago, we purchased large sheets of it and we mill out are own pads if needed.

It’s a pity that Carrozeria Brandoli shaped a standard 275 GTB4 body with flat rear fenders which don’t accept 7.5 M15 Dunlop racing tyres, high rear GTB4 spoiler instead of low GTB one, they also forgot the air ducts under the front bumpers for the brakes and the quick fuel filler cap through the right side of the boot.
And of top of that, FERRARI Classiche, of course certified 09027!!!…
    Real shame!…

Are you sure about the body? I haven't studied its shape. Did Carrozzeria Brandoli totally rebody 09027? Brandoli rebodied 275 GTB/C 09079, after it burned, which did have a quick outside fuel filler on the right side of the boot, and I think that was the only 275 GTB/C Long Nose that had one. The fuel filler is, or should be, under the boot lid on other 275 GTB/Cs, as it is on 09027 today.

Regarding the air ducts under the front bumpers, were these actually added by Ecurie Francorchamps for Le Mans, 1966? If so for it to be Red Book Classiche correct, the car would have to be without the ducts, as it is, as all the other LN 275 GTB/C cars do not have them. If Ecurie Francorchamps did add the ducts, it would qualify for a Classiche White Book with the ducts.

There is a clue in the name and a connection to one of the racers of 09027 at Le Mans, 1966. ;)

The quick fuel filler of 09027 at Le Mans, 1966. Was this another modification by Ecurie Francorchamps?

As we can see, the rear fenders are bigger on the GTB/C than standard GTB's in order to accept wider Dunlop Racing 7.50/15 and once more, the rear spoiler on GTB's is lower than on GTB4, look at the position of the push button to open the boot on each car...
The back of #09027 today is totally wrong!!...

The Dunlop Racing tyres on the rear of the 1966 275 GTB/C were 6.00 M15 R7. The rear wheels were 7 1/2" x 15" Borrani Inner Lace painted RW4011.

It's hard to tell about the body in pictures, but I'm not sure the body of 09027 or its shape has changed since Lord Laidlaw owned it, apart from the colour, the roundels and roundel lights?????

    Since Le Mans 66, I remind you #09027 was re-bodied 3 times!
And look at all other GTB/C 66 rear fenders, they are all enlarged!...
Sorry, I mixed rims dimensions with Tires dimensions! (7,5’vs7.50M)
But on my own alloy GTB, I remember I couldn’t install 6.00 M Dunlop on the 7.5 rear rims, as my car was with standard flat fenders! And I used same wheels as in front, 7’...

The rebody history of 09027 has been discussed previously on Fchat. A minor thing - the Ferrari badge is in the wrong place on 09027? Different to where it was at LM '66 anyway.

    Pictures comparing the rears of 275 GTB/C 09027 and a 275 GTB/4.

#09027 Silverstone June 2007 Shell Historic Challenge.

Look at the bigger rear fenders and the little bibs at the back, to comply with Le Mans rules. Even now, the fly screen on the hood is missing as the front square Marshall spot lights.
It's not acceptable that, such a for sure tremendously expensive restoration in such a well known italian restoration shop made those important errors and missing!!...
She is supposed to be in Le Mans 66 config. yes or no?...
And on top of that, Ferrari Classiche certified the job!!!...
    Once more, it's a shame...

On this pic., you can see she has the small low spoiler as all the GTB's in 65-66 with the button right in the middle of the spoiler height!...
And of course, the Ferrari badge is on the boot and not under the spoiler, one more mistake!!...

I saw the car at Retromobile in Paris...but It didn't exit me. I feel it is over-restored. Lacks the look of a period race car, doesn't breath any of its history. It's a bright yellow Ferrari, with new polished chrome. To me it looked like a supersized toy-car.

If 09027 was as it was at Le Mans 1966 with the brake vents in the nose, and the quick outside fuel filler it would qualify for a White Classiche Book as a Ferrari of Historic Interest, not a Red Book, for which it would have to be as it left the factory.

That is what the owner must have specified, as they probably wanted the car Red Book certified.

Ferrari cannot be blamed for that as it does not match the criteria for a Red Book, as it was at LM '66.

Here is a perfect example of people thinking that the White Book is inferior, or a lesser certification than the Red Book. The criteria to achieve the White Book is very strict and not many cars qualify at all.

Ferrari can't win. They made the White Book Attestation for people such as yourself, for the car to be certified as it raced, but the owners must have wanted a Red Book.

The White Book has been referred to as Classiche Lite, but that is NOT the case at all.

I'm not quite sure I can see the body is wrong from the pictures alone.

Thank you Gregory for your detailed observations and insight. I like the history of 9027 and it would of been nice to present it as close as possible to it's Le Mans configuration.
