In case you have not noticed, it only takes a tiny drop to spark a rapid spread, which turns into a cluster, which turns into an epidemic. Each infected person is averaging spreading the virus to 2-3 other persons at minimum. Multiply that to every other person those other persons interact with. boom.

You're still not seeing the real threat here. It's not the virus itself, it's how it will overwhelm the healthcare system and patients, both corona and non-corona related, seeking ongoing treatment won't be able to adequately. That's why slowing-mitigating the spread is absolutely paramount.

So ya, your tiny drop has more than tiny impact.

    Right

I can only imagine how Melbourne's medical facilities are bracing themselves for impact once that wave of newly infected citizens demand treatment within the same few days.

It won't matter much on a global scale but it is adding fuel to a local fire which is utterly unnecessary and avoidable.

There are millions of other tiny drops. F1 travel is like 0.0000000001% of total travel.

You're not making sense. Each F1 race destination becomes a massive, concentrated gathering of thousands of people...individual travelers don't garner that level of risk/exposure to the virus...

    Bingo

Look at how the cases started in Washington, NY or Milan: A few/one person and then it spreads. Melbourne will become a big red dot on the Australia map in two weeks time.

    Bahrain got it right.

    Latest update:

    - meanwhile 4 F1 team members in quarantine in their hotels
    - a petition has been launched in Melbourne to have the race without spectators, so far 10,000 people have signed
    - Vietnam requires a 2 week quarantine for people coming from Italy. That makes it virtually impossible for the three Italian teams to do Bahrain and then Vietnam
    - it is assumed at this point that Vietnam will either be postponed or cancelled

Yup. Some tourneys are going on without spectators. That must feel really weird, like having a really challenging practice.

Since the average age of a death from CV19 is 80 years of age, why not just quarantine old people...anyone over 60. Anyone else who gets it, gets sick and then gets better.

I liked F1 better when we only had 16 races a season, but this season I think we might struggle to get 16.

Sorry but you are dead wrong. Not only the contagion of this virus is extremly high but also the symptoms take time to show up. A single infected guy walking around the grandstands in Melbourne will spread it to a ton of people. Each of them will go back home and infect many others of his/her family members, co-workers, etc. And this process can go on for up to two weeks before any self measure is taken.

You can move for working purposes, allegedly. For instance, people who work in Switzerland are crossing the border.

You are completely missing the point. People over 80 years has the highest death rate, but a lot of people over 20's will still need care and in many times intensive care. Imagine a lot of patients flooding all the intensive care beds of a hospital, all at the same time?

Second, a child won't get sick with the virus but will spread to the family!

One thing that people are not realizing, and that is much more serious than the healthcare capacity itself, is the personnel availability. Imagine if nurses and doctors start to get sick themselves, whether or not with COVID-19, get depressive, or start to panic and decide not to go to work!

Italy is a country with a high number of doctors and nurses per capita and is working over its capacity. Imagine what could happen in the USA, the healhcare facilities would collapse if the contagion rate is similar to that of Italy.

As of today, yes. I'm expecting that to end as well. Switzerland govt made a huge mistake not to close the border entirely and sooner. The result is now in: Ticino is in state of emergency.

So, you propose to quarantine 25% of the population and let the other 75% go freely and spread the disease?
    Talk about discrimination here !!!
I may be old, but I don't think I am more of a risk, or a risk for others. I am healthy for a 70+ who is vegetarian, don't smoke, don't drink alcohol and don't take drugs
I don't travel much, don't fly, don't go to work, don't socialise, don't use public transport, don't attend sporting events, avoid gathering of any kind, don't do selfies, rarely shake hand, don't kiss people all the time, etc ... so I am less of a risk than people who do all those.
What do you propose next? Euthanasia for over anyone over 60 ?
