Disagree. Penske bought the Indy track recently and he is a big fan of F1 (used to be in it). He wants to bring F1 back to Indy. As it should.

How do you blokes feel about this Esport racing on Sundays to help fill the gap until actual go’s roll back up again? Allegedly, some of the F1 drivers will be participating. And F1 on YouTube have been posting more full coverage vids of races...just rewatched the 08 Fuji raceway one.
Watched them live? 'Hadda wait 2-3 months for magazines to read about them ('cept highlights of Monaco on Wide World of Sports) until I got hooked up with Autoweek and Competition Press (a weekly tabloid) that arrived Wednesday or Thursday after the weekend.

That's where I took my Skip Barber class. The picture doesn't really do it justice since you don't see the elevation changes. Fantastic track but in the middle of nowhere. Impossible to hold a F1 race with fans there.
LOL, point taken. There are a few nice and big hotels nearby, so yes the teams and journos would be covered logistically. But: Then there is the FIA and the requirements for team infrastructure. Road America has nothing. No garages. Just one concrete wall, that's all. Oh and SAFER barriers and the like? Don't ask. When Indy run there, it was a tight squeeze but entertaining. F1 and its lofty safety standards would never touch it. PS: Almost identical comments apply to Laguna Seca, another dream track.
As a track it wasn't great, agreed. But symbolically as the home of Indy 500 it was major league (same can be said about Monaco for that matter). AND it was super for the fans (the Michelin debacle not counting): Plenty of hotel/restaurant infrastructure in town. Plenty of onsite parking, terrific grand stands, bathrooms, food stands, souvenir shops and awesome vistas. Been there for every F1 race and loved them all. And it was dirt cheap for F1 standards. And you can fly to Indy a lot easier than to Austin, which is basically a connection through Dallas.
You're right it would cost a fortune to bring it into compliance. So are the only suitable tracks in North America Indy, COTA, Montreal and Mexico? Let's see them run the big ovals, Talledega anyone?
