    Good day All,

Just adding doc... on this neglected 412. What an interesting color combination.

As for the Car's year...I think the year is 1985 or later and not 1980 as stated in the ad. As for the seller's comment of "All this car needs is a good engine service exterior paint on some of the panels and a nice detail and the car will be ready to go." ... hmmm, I think someone is being a tad optomistic :)

    Cheers,

    Sam

This is definitely a 1986-1989 412, my 1985 400i S2 is sn 55027 and was # 5 in the production line....and with ABS on this car, which started in 1986 thru 1989 412's only.

Why wouldn't the seller at least put a battery in and see if the motor even turns over. It looks like it was left outdoors for many years. So sad!

    Good day Rick,

Given how the engine bay (and the rest of the car) looks I suspect the car has not been started in a very long time and so it is possible that the seller is concerned that starting the car as is could cause engine damage and/or issues. Secondly, whatever fuel was left in the car could also be bad and cause other issues. If the seller wishes to get reasonable $$$'s for the car they must invest some $ into the car (engine service, fuel, interior clean up, etc). If not, then I do not think there would be too many buyers stepping up to the seller's asking price of $40K.

    Cheers,

    Sam

I agree, Sam. Too many known unknowns as they say. Looks like an interesting project for someone with patience and skill.
    Stay well!

+1 -- no one should pay more than "parts car" price for this 412 until someone puts in some serious investigation/investment work.

"condition: good"? Not in my universe ;)

For sure. How much was the original Craigslist ad? That white interior is quite gorgeous imho. Very Countach.

Thanks Raemin. I didn't expand the text above so missed it.

I'd say that thing was worth $36k if that's what someone paid for it. It likely will run just fine. Clean up that engine bay, go through the fuel system, lube everything up, change the oil, and give it a shot. Cool car.

This one didn't meet reserve with a high bid of $67,714 in January of this year and now is reoffered by the same seller in the same condition at No Reserve. Gutsy move.

I bought this car today for $60k. I felt like it was a good buy. Hoping I'm not wrong about that....

The car is titled in California as a 1980, but of course it's not a 1980. I'm trying to figure out when it was actually manufactured and when it came to the US. It has amber foglamps, so I'm thinking it's a later import, possibly from France. I've PM'd Marcel Massini to see if I can get a report or any other info about it. I'd like to title it as the correct year here in Washington.

I love the color combo and I'm looking forward to taking it to shows, maybe even a councours someday.... :)

60551 is a Swiss delivery originally. According to shipping records, it came to the USA in July 2015 from Spain. I would assume it was completed in around October/November 1985 but I'm sure Marcel Massini can confirm.

Used to be an unpolished gem. Glad to see the previous owner did his homework and restored it to its former glory.

Very nice car, with an unusual color combo.

Hi all, my first post after lurking for a while. Robstand I was briefly in that auction and I felt you bought a beautiful car for a reasonable price. Congrats! I looked at the red 400i manual in Eugene you looked at as well. Excellent write up on that car.

This car needs a bit of work, as it sat for a while after the seller moved out of the country, but the interior is in fantastic shape. I had to replace the driver window switch, and I have a list of a few other things to get done. The radiator needs to be repaired (it has a small leak) and something isn't quite with the brakes. It's currently scheduled to go to 7 Lakes Motorsports in mid-August to get looked at by Mark Glenwood. We'll see if he can stay within my budget! ;)
