I've been trying to follow the machinations of the various models that seem to be a significant driver our politicians' decision making.

    e.g.
    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/imperial-college-scientist-who-predicted-500k-coronavirus-deaths-in-uk-revises-to-20k-or-less

    from cdc.gov :

"From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus."

So we have computer models, using a range of "best guess" assumptions, which have massively overstated risk. (this btw is identical to the climate change scare campaign) Then we have the very dangerous H1N1 pandemic, where there was no apparent need for a lockdown and no journalists baying for President Obama's blood. (sorry Karen, I'm being an irredeemable right wing hypocrite again)

cdc.gov: "(H1N1)pdm09 virus continues to circulate as a seasonal flu virus, and cause illness, hospitalization, and deaths worldwide every year"

Each and every preventable death from disease is a tragedy, however we also know that economic disruption carries similar risk.

    https://www.aier.org/article/drugs-suicide-and-crime-empirical-estimates-of-the-human-toll-of-the-shut-down/

When this is over, the media circus will move on to the next fake crisis. Small business owners and low-skilled workers will bear the inevitable horrible consequences, but that won't rate a mention, beyond of course blaming Trump/Scomo/Boris.

Agree completely. Added to most businesses trading and financial woes, is the concern of how the government pays for (read taxes us) all of the stimulus measures. 15% GST anyone?...

I'd like to see it at 20% on EVERYTHING, and eliminate payroll tax, stamp duty, land tax, and reduce income tax. Silly bastards like us that spend money will still pay more tax. The ATO did a study on GST in the mid nineties - a GST of 6.5% (on everything) would cover the entire tax revenue for the nation.

I agree. The problem is we don't get a result from any public health measure for two weeks - that's a lot of 24hr news cycles to stir up some outrage. The sooner we get back to some degree of normal economic activity, the better. The GAD is looking very dodgy....

Yes, PP was right (again) and I think we're likely to still be locked down in May.

However, I'll wait till mid April before I pull the pin.

Roll on GG2020, where you'll be relieved to catch AIDS rather than the Wuhan virus :)

Can’t see GAD happening, but can see the demand for a month long GG.

I was very hopeful last week that we will be doing the GG as scheduled. Fingers crossed.

Gees we’re going to need it.

Can you imagine the revenue the various Governments are going to be looking to raise.

    Poor Moretti.

I read your last two posts too quickly - thought you were saying Moretti was a 102 year old women!

Might go for a clubby drive later, interested?

Took Horse out yesterday to Pete’s and back through Draper.

If I leave and return, “I have to quarantine at home and the locks will be changed in my absence.”

Gees that is a very tempting decision.
