Except that the original color was Nocciola 106-M-27. McQueen had Lee Brown in L.A. repaint the car to dark red. Marcel Massini
Suggest to ask Classiche. It's a reproduction tag anyway. Maybe the South Australian consignor to the RM auction in Monterey 2014 had it done? Marcel Massini
I can't see why he'd do that. Possibly whoever chopped the roof off (Straman), or an owner of the car whilst it was without the roof tried to make it look more like a genuine NART Spider with this plate, and then Classiche missed it????
In 1976 #10621 was owned by J.P.H., a policeman in Los Angeles. H. was the son of the founder of Genuine Foods. Sometime later the car was damaged in an accident and then put in storage. In October 1980 the damaged car was sold to B.P. in Stockton, CA. He paid USD 32 K. P. had Richard Straman in Costa Mesa cut the roof and convert the car into a Spider, it was now painted yellow and retrimmed with a tan interior. 19 February 1997 Mr. P. sold #10621 to Mr. Z. in San Francisco. May 31, 2001, #10621 was sold via an English broker and fchatter to A.J.P. in the UK. At the time the car was still yellow. It was now repainted silvergrey metallic and retrimmed with a red leather interior in the UK. In August 2009 Mr. P. sold #10621 via a UK dealer to Mr. H. in Australia, the price paid was 1 Million USD. Mr. H. re-sold the car quickly to Mr. S., a former race driver. This man was later the consignor of the (fully restored) car to the RM Monterey auction 16 August 2014. Between early 2012 and spring 2013 the car was completely restored in Modena and Maranello with a new roof section constructed by Bachelli & Villa's Carrozzeria Auto Sport of Bastiglia (near Modena). The tag pictured (post 1864) is a reproduction tag that was made in 2012/2013. The below photos show #10621 at Bachelli & Villa's Auto Sport in 2012.
