430 Cheapest odb reader that can read clutch life?

If this really does read clutch life plus a plethora of other codes it'd be a "must have". Even the additional $16 to add my MB might be worth it since I wrench that car too.

Just to be clear, we're talking about the AP200, not the MK808TS. Both are advertised in the eBay link.

A followup question... what the cheapest DIY device to actually set the PIS? Launch X431 or is there something even more fundamental? I really only need to read clutch life, adj PIS and (maybe) drain F-1 fluid. If we're talking $150-200 range worth it for me.

 

The least expensive solution is the x431 pro mini which is around 400 450

There is a newer device called thinkdiag that costs 120 get one free brand for one year .. it may do all the same functions as the pro minii but after one year I think you can't use it .. where I believe the pro mini just won't allow updates but still can be used

I e mailed them to ask if it measured clutch wear, could not pin them down to confirm. On the 808 the. updates are mega money. Not convinced unless someone can confirm for sure

 

The x431 proX will not only read the clutch but allow you to write a new PIS value, allow you to recalibrate the F1 actuator, bleed brakes by each corner, bleed F1 pump, and see other dealer-level functions. Cost is $330 w/ Bluetooth OBD2 adapter and 1 year updates.

Install is easy and works well on a $42 Amazon refurbished Fire8HD

Not to mention it comes with access to just about every other car manufacturer known to man kind.

$330 isn’t cheap enough to have near dealer level diagnostic? It does a lot more than F1 gearbox and clutch. You can log whatever sensor you want live and save it for later viewing, correctly bleed your brakes, check engine management codes, etc.

 

Out of interest, why do you need a scanner to bleed brakes.

 

If you want to bleed the entire system including ABS.

 

Never tried on the 430 and my old toyota is not that high tec. Something new learned

 

Just about any car with abs needs the abs pump activated to 100% bleed the brake system. There are creative ways to do this without a diagnostic tool but it varies from manufacturer to another and with the x431 you can just tap a button to turn pump on and off.

 

Well. The AP200 got delivered early.

I plugged it in and started the car in the garage, but I didn’t drive it. On my 2009 430 it reads 0 for clutch usage if I choose 430 (F131E) and N/A if u use 430 EV08. Not sure which is the right one for my car but either way I know it shouldn’t be 0 unless I have to drive the car for it to get a read. I only started it up. Anyone have an idea what I should be doing so I can get a clutch read?

I don't know the answer to this, but is the 430 different from the 360 with regard to determining clutch wear?

I didn't think there was any device that actually gave the percent wear. I thought it was necessary to derive the wear utilizing the CCP values and a formula? (Different formula for 360 and 430)

Exactly. That is assuming the CCP New was set correctly the last time the clutch was changed.

Not sure what you mean I should do here. Can you explain?

As for the value being set the last time the clutch was changed. I’m not sure if the car has had a clutch done(it is low mileage car) but when it was read using a real ferrari computer about a month ago it said about 20% used.

does the car need to be running to get this "live" data or can I simply leave the key in the on position?

Key on should be fine for those specific.. but of course other live data like rpm , air flow etc

If the car hasn't had a clutch change, then the CCP values will be accurate. Thus, you will be able to derive clutch wear from these parameters.

OK, I have attached a screen shots. The interesting part is that there are multiple 430's and not knowing which one to use I took a guess at using 430 (F131E) and 430 EV08 (F131E EV08), hoping the second one is for 2008 or newer since we know the software is different for the F1 transmission. I think that was a good choice, because the plain 430 was giving numbers like 44.764mm for Clutch Position closed from new and 48.385 for clutch position closed. Wear index is 0 no matter what 430 version I choose, maybe that's why the percentage calculation reads 0.

For the F131E EV08, I get a couple of extra measurements that weren't available such as "Self-Calibrated index for Clutch wear" and "Clutch Position closed from new 2". But get a Clutch Position Closed of 18.425mm and a Clutch Position from New of 17.119mm

How do you calculate clutch wear % from that?
