I cant fully agree with your quora assessment. I drive my 77 3L TC in stock ride height, and the whole car shifts massively from on boost to off boost, from pushed down in the back to lifting the back, when lifting the throttle. If you didnt modify your right height, and took an all standard US spec TC with a 3LDZ KKK into the corner and had boost before the apex, lifting the throttle to correct speed will get you snap oversteer like a pendulum. I trained myself on a wet practice track to understand, and am now quite OK handling it. And of course, being on boost too early means you dont know what you are doing.

But wasnt that the point of the widowmaker reference? For drivers who do not know what they are doing, snap oversteer can mean to loose the car?

There is the veery long final curve at the circuit in Estoril, where you need to moderate your boost before apex to carry the speed you need on the curve´s exit. Very easy to overdo it!

"I will close with a little known observation that I think bolsters my argument about the evolution of the Turbo’s ‘killer’ reputation. The photo below shows two Porsche turbo transaxles of my cars, the top from the 3L car, the other from the 3.3. The 3L transaxle is almost 2″ shorter than the later car, meaning that the engine was ~2″ further forward than the 3.3. So my final argument that the ‘snap oversteer’ reputation of the turbo was mainly earned by the 3.3 is that it’s weight distribution was significantly further rearward than the TurboCarrera. Someday I’ll actually put them on the scales and calculate the exact difference."

I am not sure, but I dont think that assessment is correct. I think between the 3.3 and the 3.0 the engine is in the exact same position, but the short bell housing moves the gear box further back?

Any one have any sources on wether between 3.3 and 3.0 the engine position changed?

(@ersatzS2 I am just hunting for details on the difference between these two cars, no offence! Super interesting difference if correct!)

Yes. I do. Pictures from the Frere/Dron book attached. Engine is attached to the back of the gearbox, so making the gearbox 30mm longer pushes the already heavier 3.3 engine, with intercooler, further back over the wheels. Can’t remember how much heavier the 3.3 engine and gearbox are but it has to be 30kgs +? It’s a real difference.

    Hi,

I know it is a “needle in a haystack” situation but no harm in asking - I am looking for the following:

    - 1975 930 speedometer

    - 1975 airbox (have a nice 76 930 airbox as a trade)

    Thank you,

    Rod

Try Peter Dawe in Stroudsburg PA. He has done a couple of '75s. He's an amazing source of vintage parts because for decades he was disassembling street cars to convert to racing. Now doing the opposite, sorta ironic.

Try Brian Farmer @ Einmalig LLC -5455 Production Dr., Huntington Beach, CA 92649 (email: [email protected] Phone: 888-777-6772. I have found several parts for my 1977 930 TC. He seems to have a lot of early 930 turbo parts. Not sure if he does parts trades but you can always ask.Good Luck

You may also try - North Hollywood Speedometer & Clock 818-761-5136 or http://www.nhspeedometer.com , [email protected]
They repair vintage speedos (they worked on mine) and may be able to direct you to someone who may sell vintage Porsche Speedos.

    Turbo Six Decades of Supremacy

    https://autoindustrycentral.com/turbo-six-decades-of-supremacy.html

Nice article…features a photo of a pre-delivery silver 1977 Turbo and PTS arrow blue 1975 Turbo, chassis # 9305700021 (Porsche factory car, SU 5996, twin rear fog lights). Both of these photos are also in Ryan’s book but I had not noticed the large number of pre-delivery 1977 Turbos in the background in the silver turbo photo.
