wasn't long ago it was the "cheap" Napa wines that were putting a beating to the snobby overpriced Europeans.

Still true but some of the wineries got quite good at marketing.
A sommelier who is a friend gave me the best advice on wines ever. "If I hate it and you love it we are both right".

And Riesling? Ughhh. I have been told people actually drink that stuff. Tastes like something drained from a car.

If you want to mix it up check out Hungarian wines. Old world wine making, small country (size of Belgium) with 18 wine regions!
Some unique varietals grown only in Hungary or perhaps Austria/Germany as well well known Cabernet, Merlot, Pinot.
Most high quality wines unfortunately not available outside of the country due to small production.

One of the only positive things about coronavirus is that we moved from the GF's appartment in downtown Paris to my own in the suburb... where I have all my Ferrari books and my wine reserve ;)
One bottle for two for dinner could be the new standard...

I am a big fan of Pessac-Léognan, the Château Pape-Clément is the best for me (I still have a few '2000 bottles) but it has to be reserved for very special events.

Here I am again... as mentioned before, Pessac-Léognan is one of my favourite Bordeaux sub-région - and this one, while not one of the very best, was already good:

2009 was a fine year for red burgundy. in the hands of the right winemaker, and properly stored, should be in a good drinking window now.

Do we have beaujolais drinkers on here? We are enjoying a string of great vintages 2015-18. These wines are meant to be drunk young, but in good vintages, a few years will round out the gamay..especially the wines from Morgon and Moulin a Vent. I have a few '15s left and they are really drinking well. Cheers!

Hi Tom. Well, Georges DeBoeuf has been the King of Beaujolais for 40 years. His flower label bottles wines from each of the respective 10 crus. They are $ 18-22 and you can sample them to see which style you like. The Chiroubles are lovely, Julianas as well and so are wines from the Fleurie vineyards. One that is always a winner is his Jean DesCombes Morgon; widely available. I really like the Domaine Ruet Grand Cru wines as well. Even the Jadot Beaujolais Villages widely available at about $14 in grocery stores is fine. The Joseph Drouhin is also good. Cheers!

Brouilly and Côte-de-Brouilly are also two Beaujolais to be considered ;)
