Ferrari say 499 between SP1 and 2- the clients can choose. It appears the vast majority have chosen SP2. I prefer the SP1 as I see more of the historic link and its more unique to my eyes. But the 2 is great looking also!

Agree but in the long run I think SP1 buyers will wish they’d bought SP2...great cars are meant to be shared!

Touché! I agree with you about it being a great car. I think many have actually underestimated it. As I see it, both have their strong points. The 2 allows you to share the experience; the 1 is even that much more unique. The lucky owners are very fortunate indeed. Happy holidays to everyone :)

why they don’t number anymore the plaque ? Few years ago the limited Ferrari were “ numbered “ but sp1 , sp2 and even the pista spider that seems has been produced in few units are not anymore “ numbered models “. Why ? Is this a new marketing strategy of Ferrari ?

You have posted the exact same questions in the separate thread already. Why now the same in this thread?

I am not 100% sure but my belief is that they stopped individually numbering the cars because it led to some cars being worth more than others simply because of the number. Cars 1 to 10 would be more valuable than say car 256.

Perhaps I am getting amnesia here, but when did Ferrari individually number limited series cars?
as far as I can remember, none of the hyper cars were individually numbered and the same applied to 599GTO, 599 SA, 458 Speciale Aperta and TDF. Most of them were “1 of XXX” and the 288, F40 did not even have that. The SP1/SP2 are in the same mould, so no change of policy there by Ferrari
Porsche numbered the CGT and 918 individually and it does create an issue in countries where numbers may be important to superstitious people, eg in Hong Kong, no one wants number 14 or 44, but 8 or 88 would be valued higher than normal numbers, in many parts of Europe 13 would be unsellable, lots of people would want the first or the last car etc.
the main advantage of individually numbered cars is that it provides more confidence that the manufacturer did not make more cars than they promised. Having said that it would be very unlikely and very risky for Ferrari to do that anyway as a publicly listed company.

A few SA Aperta have numbered plates with « XX/80 » or « XXX/080 ». But only a few, not all of them. These are requests from customers but not an official numbering.
And of course, the numbers given don’t follow the order of the production...

My guess is that this is related to Ferrari saying it would build “up to 499” SP1/2, if I remember correctly. Which means -unless their English got misunderstood- that if demand was for 300 they would only build 300, which would make a “1 of 499” plate look pretty silly... thanks for the tip on the Barchetta, I completely forgot that one.

don’t worry! Anyway I don’t think it has ever been an official press communication saying any number ( up to 499 ), I haven’t found it. However we will see !

An excellent point. But I think they said they would definitely build 499 in total and it would be up to the clients to decide the split. With regard to the Barchetta, the last of the truly numbered Ferraris, there were arguments brought about from someone wanting the very first, the very last, a favorite number, and so on. Then there was an unconfirmed story about two owners showing up at a car gathering only to discover they have the same number (!).. thus, saying 1 of XXX seems a better way. Now they say Limited Edition.....
