Front lens screws

These two unusual screws hold the turn/parking lamp lens on my 87 Cab. The pair on the driver side of the car have been mangled beyond repair. Anyone know where I might find these little jewels? ACE Hardware probably isn't going to cut it, lol.

Not shown on the drawings at all, local ferrari dealership is your best bet

 

I'm not certain about it, but the long screw looks very similar to the one used for securing the fusebox. If so, check with a company like Ricambi. Table 126, part 14. About 7 bucks. There may be a match elsewhere in the car for the smaller one as well.

 

You might just need to get one made

Geez, where does one go to get screws made? That never occurred to me. Why someone deemed it necessary to turn these things to the point of striping the heads is also beyond me....

 

make a slot with hacksaw, you can tighten again with a screwdriver. Perhaps a solution for emergency?

 

That is exactly what I was in the process of doing. Thanks to all for the advice.

 

Using a Phillips screwdriver (or bit) on a Pozidriv screw.

Yeah, they definitely are Pozidrives. Probably explains how they got mangled by someone with a phillips bit on a power tool.

 

You can try searching for "low head" or "thin head" caps screws. And you might have to settle for allen head instead of the original pozidriv.

Fill the head recess with Araldite rapid epoxy , as it starts to harden use a suitable screwdriver end into the epoxy and press in the shape. Once you have it, leave for 24 hours to fully cure. The lens does not need to be overtight so you should get it tight enough. If it does not work you can always scrape it out.
Other alternative is to get a hex machined onto the head or file it if u r good with a file

 

I figure I will contact Red Bay and Eurospares tomorrow and see if they have any laying around. I tried Ferrparts, but no dice there. FYI, if you want to hear someone laugh uncontrollably, call the local dealer and ask them if they have screws for the front of a 33 year old car. I'm not too sure they didn't have to give the guy oxygen before the call was over....

 

If u really get stuck , send me a drawing and will see if i can knock you a pair up with a flat screw driver slot.

 

I appreciate that, but I'm sure I'll get it handled. I cut a slot into the really bad one yesterday and that made it useable until I can find replacements. Thanks again.

 

I remember someone saying that the Ferrari dealers sold off their old stuff years ago. However, Algar Ferrari of Philadelphia still has lots to offer, maybe call them?

An easy way is to get the damaged recess filled with solder and then machined flat. Then get a machine shop to mill on a hexagon head,( only a 5 min job with a dividing head ) or you glue a nut to the top and file it on yourself using the nut flat as a guide- it is easy with a good smooth flat file, mind i have many years doing this.
Looking at the threads, they might not be metric- have you tried running a nut down them as they might be a special unless its the camera angle.

 

I don't have any separately unfortunately. I think someone with a turning lathe will be able to help you

 

I have a lathe but if you look at the thread form i dont think it is metric- that is some special thread as the thread tops are rounded. You would need a sample screw to copy the thread form.
Do these screw into a nylon bush by any chance ? Or into a Spire Clip.

 

They just thread into the plastic bezel housing. Looks like they were originally self cutting for soft plastic.

 

You see what i mean about the threads, something special and not metric looking at the pics.
Personally i would machine a hex on the old screw head
