Today, I finally got the chance to begin the leaking shift shaft seal project. I'm going to replace both silent blocks on the shaft while I am there. I pulled the center console today and found two OEM looking wires that i don't know what they are for. They were neatly tucked down the passenger side under the console. Any thoughts?

Sometimes B and S of some models have slightly different center console components. What are the insulation colors of the two wires?

I'll take a look tomorrow when I am back where the car is located. This car is a GTB.

    Hi Joe,
I'm starting this same work on my 85 308 - gearshift seal has been leaking and doing the silenblocs while I'm in there. I started at the oily end first, but will have the console out in the next few days, so I can check if I have the extra wires too. We should keep in touch in case we need technical and emotional support :)

My 1986 Euro GTB has the same, I just discovered this few weeks ago. It's look like OEM but I Don't know what that could be !

Maybe that's where you plug in the flux capacitor. :D

Doesn't look like I will be able to get a pic of the wires today but will tomorrow.

Got a chance to look at the wiring today. Each connector has two wires and each pair is identical. One pair is completely black. The other pair is yellow with a red stripe. Does that help identify what the connectors are?

I think the answer is that "nothing" connects to those, and they are just a way to join those black wires together and to join those GR wires together (and the other side connects to nothing) -- although they would be a convenient place to tap off a ground signal and a signal that goes +12V when the parking lights are "on"). On the 1986 US 328 schematic, there is an unlabeled symbol for these gizmos (what the red arrow is pointing to):

but it indicates that there should be three or four black wires in one and three GR wires in the other serving to run the illumination bulbs in 29 (the rear heated window switch), 30 (the parking light switch), and 31 (the front fog light switch). However, it also seems a little mangled symbol-wise as two of the black wires are joined together out in space. If you follow the wires do you have any other of these nearby? It is also possible that rather than splitting these signals like shown on the schematic (which is created early for each model) and sending separate wires to 29, 30, and 31, they did a later design change to the harness to "daisy-chain" the black and GR wires between the 29, 30, and 31 connectors -- anything like that present?

Sorry I haven't gotten back to this thread sooner. I have been away from the car for a couple of days, but I am back at it today. I can't trace the wires since they enter the protective sleeve that every other wire in the center console shares. From there, there is no telling where they go. I didn't go through all the wires closely since I don't really want to disturb them too much, but I did see two yellow wires with a red stripe going to the passenger side blower control. A group of wires goes to a round connector. From there, the wires go to the blower control. The yellow/red wire doesn't actually go to the controller, but it goes into the connector, which then goes to the controller. There are two black wires going to the driver's side blower control, but I have no idea if there are the same wires.

I did confirm that there are only two wires going to the mystery connectors.

At this point, I am satisfied with the answer that the connectors don't do anything. I will keep them in mind if I ever need power in the center console.
