Ok - so I ordered some replacement trim for the window scraper molding on my 308. The new stuff looks correct. My question is as follows. My existing scrapers are in decent shape (felt all there) only real issue is the dye in the surrounding material has faded a lot and there a lot of loose threads etc. I was thinking as these original ones are riveted on and are only original once is that if maybe just redye the top bit and then trim the loose threads. Any opinions on that approach from experience and what I could use to “renew” the originals? Or do folks typically just replace?? thanks in advance Anthony Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well it will be a time consuming swap, they have nicks in them to bend the door contour, and as you say are riveted on but just use that method! The newer ones are a better fabric base, it won't be so prone to the fraying, IMO. The Factory just cut the original ones and slammed them on, a little sealer or glue on the cuts would have gone a long way! With your tan interior I fell a redye of the fabric would just be too risky. It's gonna require the door glass out so maybe lube and give the regulator some love while in there!! On my car the glass guide channels of the mullions vertically have fragged out too, so this is in my future. My old shop did one of the four, once and he was not thrilled about the other three so I left them alone...
I may give it a shot. Fixing the windows is what started this little odyssey. I pulled the glass on one today so I could redo the channels. I’m not sure what type of tool to do the riveting. I have some cheap Pop rivet hand tool thing from autozone but maybe need something more serious for this. Would you rivet them back on or just Use some sort of adhesive? I assume they riveted as was more secure?
Oh no for sure rivet them back, Ferrari saved TONS of weight in avoiding common fasteners...there's not but five or six per side. It will take some work to transpose the pattern from the old material to the new. The rivets hold the outer mullion down at the same time, and adhesive would not work, IMO Just search and find the same size shank and make sure it's deep enough to go thru all three pieces, the door included!
I had to study that myself, it looks like the part is already loose from the window, and the outer paint is masked off. Possibly the door is off and laying on a table?? I agree it's odd!!
Yeah. I had already pulled the door cards and it was sitting on my lift. There is one piece riveted to the door card and one piece riveted to the door itself. Thanks for the help. I’ll report back to let you know how this goes!
