Would it have killed you to make the effing hole for the electrics 5mm bigger all round? Or even just put a simple plug in the engine bay like Porsche? Really?? Rant over. Stupid car.
I used to ask similar questions about GM products every single day that I worked as a tech. The simple answer is this; if the mechanical engineers that design these cars and their sub-systems had to personally install and remove these sub-systems, then we would end up with much easier vehicles to service. Auto manufacturers do not care too much about their product after it leaves the assembly plant, and that is the cold hard truth. I can't tell you how many times auto manufacturers will replace a mass-failure part (that may be subject to a service bulletin) with the exact same part. Duh. They tell the public they care in their commercials, but we know better.
It was the same in the aircraft manufacturing industry. The Boeing 777 did break the pattern (I hear Boeing, ironically, ran some kind of computer simulation to figure out if humans could work on the components). Ferrari do make some things easy to remove . An instrument binnacle held on with two phillips screws and a hook.
I'd like to know what the guys on the assembly line thought. How did they pull/push them through? You'd think that making it easier would be in their own self interest in terms of speed/reliability at the factory.
