Wow, you’re talking about a car from 10 years ago! Ferrari has been through 3 generations of cars since then! (458, 488, F8). McLaren has come a long way in 10 years. They drift quite nicely now!
Brooks from DT recently posted a video with a 60-130 time in his stock 720S of 5.17 seconds. Not sure it’s really a fair comparison to a 488. He spun a fair amount at launch which probably knocked a tenth off but a 720S will consistently run 5.3 seconds 60-130 while a 488 is 6.5-6.7 seconds.
Yep Brooks Drag Times Youtube channel is awesome. He does a great job. He and others have proven the 720S is faster...a real beast in stock form and will out run a 488 and Pista. I went to look at a 720 S but they are small inside and I could not really fit. I am a slim to average build 6'5".
My friend had a 458, then 720s and now a 488. He hated the 720s, said nothing but issues, especially with windshield issues. The quality control is very poor, typically English...
i went and test drove a 720 s and than ended up buying a 488 gtb very similar in power 488 comes on strong earlier no lag,720 s has lag but at above 6k rpm it just takes off, both are amazing cars but i prefer the 488 i just love the car
Said no one ever. 720s and Pista sit alone in the speed department below Hypercars. 488/675/650/12c/570,SV, Performante, huracan, etc. aren't very distinguishable from each other in speed.
720 and GTB very similar in power? Absolute nonsense. I owned both cars. 720 destroyed the 488 every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
I have no problem with you saying you prefer the 488. I have no problem with you saying that both are "Fast". But it is just not accurate to say their power is similar. Its not. Its not even close. 720 utterly destroys 488 and this is coming from someone who put over 5000 miles on his 488.
If you just drove the 488 you would think its as fast as anything out there. Then you drive the 720 and there is a different reality. Not saying one is better than the other but the 720 definitely wins the speed battle.
I saw the video and posted it. One thing 100% is that Maclaren would go bankrupt 1st before Ferrari. And if it did OMG poor those that have a Maclaren
which video? All I saw is this https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-government-puts-brakes-on-150m-mclaren-loan-plea-11984602
Hope the British government realise how critical Mac is to auto and other tech in the UK and keep it local
It is beyond doubt that Ferrari is financially very secure and there is no reason why it should not continue to grow. Their market cap now exceeds GM. Ferrari has over the decades, cultivated an image of prestige and exclusivity. McLaren, to its credit, has in a very short period, emerged into a super car power. However, in the process, there have been challenges which confront most budding companies. Some may question their marketing strategy, reliability, and customer service. Growth has been robust but the 2019 fiscal year is concerning since revenue decreased, while cash on hand and debt significantly increased. It would appear that 2020 will result in an exacerbation of the trend begun in the previous year with the pandemic creating serious financial concerns.I am not suggesting that the company is in serious risk of insolvency since a takeover would be a more likely scenario. McLaren has come too far to disappear.
It would be great if they focused more on quality than qty and increased the number of service centers, then over time slowly ramp up production. They should stop sending cars to dealers that just sit which in turn require steep discounts which kills values. Over time they will become stronger and if they do it right it will be similar to the old privately held Ferrari. Essentially walk, not run. Flooding the market is not strategic for the brand. They need better business leadership.
I agree. McLaren has made fundamental errors in their quest to grow too quickly. The rapid introduction of new models, coupled with providing dealers with too many cars in stock, which has had the unintended consequence of disproportionate depreciation of the prexisting models, less than stringent quality control protocols, insufficient number of dealerships and less than accomodating customer service have all contributed to their current precarious financial situation. Mclaren is in desperate need of an infusion of capital with leadership at the top which can rectify these past errors. Super car companies like Lamborghini, Ferrari and to a lesser extent Porsche, have had decades to cultivate an aura of prestige, heritage and exclusivity which Mclaren has not yet been capable. Human nature always wants what they cannot get. Ferrari has built their brand and thrived on this fundamental human reality. By making cars readily accessible to any potential customer is counter productive in carving out the prestige aura that is intrinsic to luxury car ownership. However, this process is time consuming and nurtured over decades. The company must be lauded for developing stellar products in such a short time that match or exceed their competitors. There still is time for Mclaren to turn their prospects around with a more measured and long term horizon for future stability and growth.
I heard they are restructuring, because the bad rep, has finally got the best of them.... Same like the restructuring of their F1 team. They dumped Honda after another poor season end of '17 and used Renault engines since. That put them in a respectable 4th manufacturer standing wise. Can't wait till the new season! Forza Ferrari!!!
[ Uhhhh...tell us more. What did you hear and from where? Or is this a typical wishful thinking, so I'll toss it out there statement?
