While I know the speeds in video footage like this can appear faster than they actually are, I do find it strange someone attempting to exhibit fairly rapid acceleration/driving in an environment where chances of unexpectedly quick encounter with another motor vehicle, let alone a (adult/child) pedestrian or bicyclist, seem quite high. OTOH, people seem to drive like this every day and everywhere, even with lesser valued cars.
Agree completely, crowded cities and residential areas are not a place to test or show the capabilities of high performance cars new or old.
Thought I heard some gearbox grinding in video. Good thing we know there's a spare unit out there....

The gearbox was the only thing that Phil Hill could criticise about the 250 GTO. Below is an extract from a Phil Hill Road & Track article about the 250 GTO: "I can't, however, be as enthusiastic about the gearbox, which has Porsche baulking-ring type synchros. This change may have been an advantage to the younger drivers (and customers) who weren't adept at proper double-clutch downshifting, but the synchros slowed the entire gear-changing process. In comparison with other Ferrari racing transmissions, the GTO's long throws and heavy feel seemed a step backward." Perhaps Phil was remembering the effectively even longer throw of this particular GTO's gear lever? I'm quite surprised that 3387 seems to have an electric radiator engine cooling fan, that it certainly would not have had originally. Listen here.
I think it's acceptance and utility is so widespread nowadays that you don't even get docked points at the shiny show. I mean concours.
Not that it really matters much, but has someone been able to verify this example actually is a "real McCoy" and not just a (close enough) carbon copy which some UK based outfits have been known to produce of various sorts in recent times ? Just (mildly) curious.
Looks genuine to me, and I have owned #4757 and later built through Greg Jones of Stuart Florida two amazingly beautiful GTO "rebody recreations"--a 3 liter and a 4 liter, respectively, on a shortened 25O PF coupe chassis and a 330 GT chassis. The aluminum bodies were made in Italy. Both used a non-sychro Saenz transmission. Unless one has seriously studied the GTO, they were virtually indistinguishable from the original and a helluva lot of fun to drive the snot out of.
so chances are the above GTO has a Saenz trans, which may account for the crunch sounds heard during shifting.
Of course the fan will not do any harm. As far as I am aware, GTOs 3527, 3757, 3869 and 4115 which have been used extensively in the UK, did not have a cooling fan fitted. I was only surprised as the the restoration of 3387 was overseen by Ferrari Classiche. A fan might be beneficial in hotter countries if the car is used in traffic.
No. The gearbox will be a correct 5 speed synchromesh unit in this genuine Ferrari GTO. Perhaps Dyke or one of the other members here, who have driven and/or worked on a GTO, can comment on the gearbox crunch on changing gears, and whether some clutch drag or something like that is going on.
Yes. Beautiful color. Which is it exactly? Blue chiaro metallizzato? My second favorite. The 250 swb comp. in grigio conchiglia is phenomenal in person. It was next to the DB4 Zagato at Villa d’Este last year. Isn’t this the infamous transmission fiasco GTO? So did they finally get the original transmission replaced in this car? Has it been repainted recently? Seems to be far more green in that particular blue than when Talacrest had it...
