Yes please I’m interested to have your return about this. Many thanks . The diagnose is important axis backlash/play on the LH turbo. (Turbo right side passenger is perfect as new). What I think , it’s ok some car or parts can have an problem but Ferrari must do something. It’s not normal so they can show that they support us. Keep safe !

When a manufacturer states a part is 'consumable' and not covered under warranty than it tells me they expect it to fail long before a major component of the car. Maybe even a couple time during its life. Replacing them down the road could be more than 20% of the cars' value and that's not something to ignore in a used car.

Common or not I thank the OP for putting it out there.

As I thank Steve @SAFE4NOW for his insight from his end. He extended my warranty on my F12 and I got more than my money out of it ....

Both are related because knowledge of potential faults (FF PTU) and incidence factor in the value and utility of NPW and extensions.

Prior to the post had not been aware. If I was keeping my 488 past warranty I would extend.

Let me ask Steve - would a 488 with all service be covered for turbo failure under factory/extension warranty (or NPW) or is it a consumable?

    Thanks

I actually think Ferrari’s warranty program is great. Suffice to say you can have official Ferrari warranty on your car past the 10 year old mark, and I can’t extend my BMW’s factory warranty past 4 years no matter what.

I look at car or health insurance like having a gun: it’s better to have it and not needing it, than needing one on the spot and not having it.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

4th and 5th year warranty is literally an extension of the original 3 year factory warranty, so if an item is covered under the 3 year initial warranty, it would be covered under the 4th and 5th as well.

I have asked for clarification since it is not listed in the New Power Warranty book, I will reply by tomorrow.

    Happy to help,

FWIW, you can actually have " official Ferrari warranty " for over 15 years ..... < wink >

Back when I bought the 458, I think it was 12 years. They must have extended to the 15 year old mark in the meantime, and I missed it. Thanks Steve.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

There is a mileage limit, though, correct?

Yes, but who ever reaches the mileage limit... LOL ( I know I know , some do! )

FWIW regarding the addition of a compression test being required during the new power warranty inspection:
Engine compression test is required on vehicles older than 5 years old or with more than 31,068 mi.

Most of the newer cars, like 458 on... the initial test can be performed electronically, much simpler than mechanically.

Trying to follow along here but can't find if a blown turbo is covered under original warranty?

Turbo failure would be covered under factory warranty , as well as 4th and/or 5th year warranty extension**

Turbo failure is not currently a covered item under new power warranty

** Assuming no outside influence like no oil changes as outlined in the owners manual or aftermarket driveline add-on's , etc

Turbo malfunction would be a covered component under factory warranty.

I've replaced one, under factory warranty, on a Pista. The failure logged seconds after cold start up under full load... covered, with only standard questions asked.

I'm still a little confused by wording? First says "Turbo failure would be covered under factory warranty , as well as 4th and/or 5th year warranty extension". Then next sentence says "Turbo failure is not currently a covered item under new power warranty". Is "new power warranty" different than "factory warranty"?

Yes it is different. You can extend the factory warranty for either 1 or 2 years to total 4/5 years of full factory warranty. There are only certain times you can do this however. In addition you can get a New Power warranty that only covers certain parts of the drive train post warranty for up to 15 years in total

Years 1-3 are " Factory Warranty " failure of components covered under this warranty
Years 4 and or 5 are " Warranty Extension " , exactly what it sounds like, this is an extension of the first 3 years of factory warranty
Years 6+ are New Power Warranty , only covers listed items for failure

    Optional:
    Years 8+
only for cars 2012 or newer, " Main Power Warranty " , same as New Power Warranty with the addition that the next years annual service is included as well

Technically all of the above are " factory warranty " as Ferrari SpA is the underwriter for the claims and payment of the claims. But the above description breaks it down in simpler terms.

    Hope this helps,

    Steve

You have a greater chance being stuck at the servo with a flat battery than a blown turbo.

Trust me it will hit you when less expected. Suggest getting a battery charger. You can thank me when you need it

Yes I am on 3rd Ferrari and I still am perplexed by how Ferrari can’t solve an issue that for the most part the rest of the industry did 30 years ago... 350k for a car you can’t leave off a battery tender longer than 48 hours

They cover everything not wear related for first 3 years then with the 2 year extension of the bumper-bumper. After that its just drivetrain. Turbos are listed in the exhaust section of the parts diagrams and thus not covered and considered disposable like mufflers - a $30k set of mufflers. Since they made a lot of cars with these it seems rebuilds can be an option. I am amazed at the reliability demands of such a part on a high performance engine. Personally I will no longer even crack a nut on an exhaust system.

It's been sitting in the front of my car for couple of years. I think it's dead. Too bad Escort gave it to me at a car show where we drained my battery. It looks expensive.
