Lost all gear oil today, 1991 Testarossa

Looking for clarification on torque setting for axle flange bolt.

Another hiccup, Ferrari clutch alignment tool I bought is too thick.

Dang it, there goes getting it on the road today.

 

I aligned my pressure plate and clutch disk with the handle of a screwdriver on my TVR a couple times.

Dual clutch disks would be tough.

You've got an alignment tool with a little disassembly. Use the original shaft from your transfer case assembly. Might seem like a bit of work, but it's sitting there, and it's certainly correct.

 

Are you using all- thread for your replacement studs? You should have mentioned you broke these before I shipped back your parts. I make all manners of hardware on my CNC lathe. If you ARE using all thread, I don't know how much I'd trust them to not stretch and break.

 

The tool is too thick. You can easily cut it down on a lathe or with a drill press. I wish I’d known and I’d have sent that too. The splines are right just the plastic dowel in the center is too large. Only Ferrari, right? Lol

The entire thing is too big lol. Won’t fit in the bearing or the splines.

Parts store let me search their stock and found one that fits, cost me $4. Shaft is a little thick so I am rigging a belt sander to narrow it down.

 

RH side I have 1.55 and 1.71.

LH side I have just about everything from 2.3mm to 2.97mm.

 

2 are all threads. I ordered the studs from every Ferrari shop and all failed to locate any.

I called every hardware place and no one had shouldered studs that long.

I owe you a serious dinner.

 

Coming together, just a few things needed.

Figuring out clutch now. I lost pictures on how it came apart.

Can’t confirm torque settings for axle flange bolt in service manual.

Headers back on.

Once I get these resolved axles will go on and then wheels and tires. Then I’ll lower it and finish clutch and bleed system.

Then reinstall exhaust and air intake and test drive.

I think Flash32 was curious what you ended up using for shims. I think you used the 3.00 mm or .118 on the left side, which was the largest shim I provided besides the one I made for set up. On the right side I assume you went with the 1.8 mm or .070.

I have around thirty left side shims in almost all the sizes at this point, if you need any.

Shouldered Studs? They're standard 8.00 mm studs.

 

Torque specs for axle flange to differential is 54ftlbs

 

Ah gotcha.


Yesterday my preload was good, little on the high side, with:
RH cover 1.55mm
LH cover 2.9mm

Now with correct backlash I have:

RH cover 1.66mm
LH cover 3.0mm

So I made a .1mm change on each side.

 

Axle shaft to differential screws are 43ftlbs

Yes I couldn’t find anything that matched. Referenced the part in the parts list and saw it was listed as a screw.

Used screw securing flange to wheel. 7.5kpm

 

How does that compare to the old setup .. I remember you marked everything as you took apart

12 x 1.5


I thought you were talking about the nut in the middle of flange connecting to axle from diff

RH was 1.55.
LH was pretty mangled but I measured it as best I could and it was 2.9mm

 

My parts manual doesn’t show that wording.

Mine says securing ring nut to main shaft transmission side.

Yes I couldn't find anything for the center bolt as you displayed /pointed to with your thumb a few posts up in a TR Wsm so I decided to open up my 512 tr Wsm up and found this at the end of the section .. is the size indicated the same

Pro tip.

When doing half axels attach bolts to wheel side first and then do gearbox side.

 

don´t forget to fill gearbox oil in before testdriving

you use new or the old screws? new those 117 Nm are ok
but used ones I would not torque with more than 100 Nm

before you put in the half shafts put some silicone on the center screws ( fixing bolt for diff flange ). otherwise gearbox oil can go out, even it will not be much

happy driving later
so you are then about not even 3 weeks after your mom´s bday. good job you did ! ! !

 

Question.

Drivers side half shaft went in easy.

Passenger side will not align. I marked them when I removed them so I am putting the one that came off back on the same side.

When I get 1 bolt from the half shaft to the differential flange no other bolts line up.
