1987 white red, 15,000 miles. I’m the second owner. Major 2 years ago (by me), new tires at that time, etc. Nice car that I just never drive. Intended to keep as I was sure it would be worth a fortune one day . My boys are now 18, enjoy driving the Porsche’s. Son mentioned he would love to drive a Lamborghini. I wouldn’t mind one either. Good move? Stupid? Plan would be to diy the gallardo... Side note, what’s a ball park value on the testarossa? Just feel like I need a change... I keep seeing gallardo’s for 80k$...
Yeah, Gallardos you don't want to buy for $80k.... Even though I don't care for TRs and own a Lamborghini....it's not a smart move.... The e-gear in first gen G's is just horrible.....the LP cars from '09 up.....better but that ain't saying much. Same with the Murcielago. If you want a collector car, go for a Diablo or older. If you want one with good and modern everything, buy a Huracan.....I drove one recently and it was just a damn good time.
Own a Gallardo Spider and Testarossa. $80k Gallardo is going to be a headache and need work. Always get a snap shot in a PPI. Gallardo is easy to work on. Gallardo is ok for fun spirited drives. Just ok. My wife likes driving the Gallardo to the store..... TESTAROSSA > Gallardo Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
It says a lot about the gallardo after what you been through with the TR! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’ve never owned or driven the gallardo but have researched them as wife likes them, I would never trade tr for G. Especially because you essentially are the owner of a one-owner car with low mileage in a great color combo. The tr will also be worth more money in the future and the G not so sure.
Thanks guys... very informative... Surprised the gallardo gets so little love... The other lambroghinis are too much $$$ for now...
It’s not like they were bad cars in their day, but the design and tech are aging badly. It’s still a good exotic starter car for a guy in his 20s....it still has the badge. The Huracan was like a leap at low gravity it was that big of an improvement.
Not a bad car at all, I just wouldn’t sell a TR for one. But if I was just looking for a fun everyday jump in and go car he’ll yea buy a Gallardo. I prefer pre-lp over the LP cars due to the sound. I didn’t like the Huracan. The Murci is nice but a car you can just go jump in and drive to the store. Would still like one but not what I was looking for. Will add one to the play garage one day. The Gallardo makes a fun, convenient grocery getter. I throw the keys to employees all the time, they love it.
I would rather have the better transmission and 50 hp more.......one can always improve the sound with another exhaust. On the next statement, people on forums always tell the story about that one guy that didn't like the Huracan more....but I thought it had to be an urban myth...wait, I think Bigfoot is knocking at my door..... just kidding.......except that Bigfoot thing, the guy looks like someone just left his Chewbacca costume on too long.
Your TR even today has to be a $125K example? I know they go "down to $70K " also!! But unless it's a specail edition like the last 6 speed 2WD, or something like that, I would vote "no". As my smarty pants son would say: "They are on two different value curves".... Your TR was worth a fortune three years ago! But, it will be back, IMO
Drive one for an hour or so. I have looked at getting a Gallardo. The V10 sounds great, the build quality is excellent. The e gear is crude and eats clutches when it gets out of adjustment, but, like a 360 Modena, it is possible to convert one to manual (which I would consider as a fun project). The TR is a car from a different age. Not slow, but more analog, sonorous but with less gymnastic ability. Given limitations in driving on public roads, the TR is more entertaining at rational speeds. If I had to drive long distance, the Gallardo would be a logical choice but I would prefer to arrive in the TR.
I have owned 2 Gallardos, one an 06 SE Manual, and an 04 manual Twin turbo. A 6spd manual Gallardo is an amazing car. I would never buy an Egear, just like I wouldnt buy an F1. Much faster, much more reliable than the Testarossa. For a spirited drive the Gallardo is a much better car. However other then the F40, the Testarossa is my favorite Ferrari so I wouldnt give up my Testarossa for a Gallardo, just buy one in addition to.
Well u do go by Allan Lambo so pretty sure the lambo would be your fav Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Early e-gear feels like an old audi automatic when you pop it over to tiptronic mode. And the nose at low speed feels like it's in wet cement, heavy and vague. 10 mins test drive and i knew i had no interest. Ive heard better about the 560, performante and Balboni versions. But never tried. Manual Balboni RWD seems like the keeper... all 20 of them!
If you can stretch your budget to 110-115k, you can probably find a nice manual Gallardo, price will go up if you want things like nose lift, premium color, or a newer car with the better gearing and better rns-e. My 5 year ownership experience of my 07 manual spyder has been nothing short of spectacular. Extremely reliable, easy maintenance, well built, fast, stock exhaust sounds incredible when the valves are open. If you ever want to talk Ferrari's and Lamborghini's feel free to reach out. Jay.
The one thing though is the gallardo will never be legendary like the TR... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
