Hit a pothole in the 458 that caused the passenger door air bag to go off. In real time the bump felt insignificant, about as bad as something I hit weekly in my daily driver.

Come to find out the wheel grazed the inner fender and the rim itself took a little bit of damage.

The total repair bill from Ferrari is insane - fortunately it is covered by my insurance but I will be paying very close attention to bumps and potholes on future drives

That's scary to see, did you have the passenger airbag recall done? Because I'm glad to see that everything else seemed ok otherwise

Stormtrooper with black racing seats and white stitching? I like your style!

Hopefully the airbag recall I had done for the passenger side fixed this. :-/

The recall was for the passenger front airbag, not the door airbag.

Have owned cars with side airbags since 1998 and never experienced or heard of this occurring until recently. Bad engineering and should be considered defective and replaced as faulty safety equipment. There is a world of difference between a side body impact and a front wheel pothole namely no side body impact. In this case the faulty airbag discharge is actually a danger to an occupant where none existed.

Yes my passenger took a pretty good shot to the arm. If it had happened on the driver side the result could have been a lot worse.

Wow. If your passenger was just old enough to be out of a car seat then there is really unacceptable danger to the head. This should be a recall issue IMO. Like I said, side airbags since 1998 and lots of potholes since. My wife ran over a branch in a bad storm this past Halloween night and blew out the 35 profile right front tire on 19 inch rim. No front, side or curtain airbag deployment as you would expect. Tire was almost $300 to replace (Walmart and AAA to mount) and a PITA.
